Margaret Means was murdered during the night of November 17,2016 in Indianapolis, Indiana. Margaret was killed where she lived, in the back of a parking lot on Indianapolis’s eastside.
There are many unknowns, we don’t know who took Margaret’s life, we don’t know what happened to cause Margaret to end up on the street. But, we do know that she bore the burden alone. Margaret did not tell her daughter and granddaughter that she was homeless, she apparently didn’t want them to worry. Margaret’s daughter learned all this when she opened the door to the police and a chaplain early on Friday November 18, 2016.
Margaret was much more than a homeless woman on Indys eastside. Life circumstances had Margaret in a very bad situation but she was definitely not a bad person. She did not use tobacco, drugs or alcohol. She was an elderly woman with health problems trying to make ends meet on a very sparse income. The struggle had become too much at some point and she became homeless. Margaret was warm and caring, she liked to make people laugh and smile. Though her circumstances were hard, she gave to people less fortunate than her. During a recent charity drive on the eastside, Margaret brought in mens gloves to donate to the homeless!! She remarked, “I wish I could do more. “
There was no life insurance, there are no funds for burial. Margaret’s daughter and granddaughter are heartbroken and dealing with this as best they can.
It is my hope that we can all come together and give Margaret a proper burial. All money raised will go to funeral home and burial cost.
The people that ask for nothing are the most deserving…..
