Marianne’s Fight For Fair Custody II
Donation protected
Hi everyone
My fight is for fair custody of my 2 sons, Jack and Barclay. It's been a very tough year, but I'm strong and confident.
I am seeking 50/50 custody.
My husband won’t budge from his stance, which is 100% residential time for him. We have now been to court multiple times and my legal bills total $31,000 to date, with $9,500 still owing.
The system makes for a tough situation. The court can't address fair allocation of legal fees until the case is decided. And because no one will work for free, the only option is “pay now, and (hopefully) get some money back later”. As the monied spouse, he will likely be ordered to pay the majority of legal bills once the case is decided. (Whether or not he will comply is another matter!)
Background:
He covertly filed against me in April 2017, after we had agreed to divorce mediation. By then he had closed our bank accounts. We were legally married for 19 years, and I had no money of my own; all of our money was joint. He then hired a high-end Manhattan attorney.
My friends and family, you have been absolutely phenomenal in your help and love.
I ran a previous successful campaign in December, and reached my goal in 24 hours ❤️ I am so, so grateful.

That previous campaign was for partial fees for a forensic psychiatrist. We all had multiple visits with him, and he is completing a report that should be delivered to the judge soon. I wholly believe that his report will support my stance: that 50/50 custody is best for the boys.
We have another court date in June. The case could be decided soon, but my legal bills have to be paid before things can move forward. I'm working at a Boys and Girls Club now and have been since January, but my income only dents what is owing.
Asking for help isn't easy, but I do need help in order to keep fighting.
I won't give up; Jack and Barclay need both parents in their lives. I firmly believe that the court will determine the same thing, but only after a tragic waste of money on all sides.

On a brighter note, I’m adding "art rewards" this time around, at donation milestones. I’ll describe those below.
And no matter what, thanks for reading this, and for sending love xo

Bubble Meditation Drawing?
I started doing these about a year ago, and often do them on the subway to and from work. Basically I choose a phrase to focus on, and draw circles while repeating the phrase (in my head, that is!).
You could call it meditation, mantra repetition, or just plain old "therapy" :-)
They're soothing, and the net result is a cosmological-esque image that reminds me how vast and beautiful life truly is.
(And that this is a tough time, but it will pass).
If you donate $150 or more, I will send you a larger one, framed to 5" x 7"
THANK YOU EVERYONE!!!
I will keep you posted.
Love, Marianne
