Equipment Purchase 4 FrontLine Healthcare Workers!
Donation protected
Hello Everyone
We are a team of caring individuals that all reside in the Durham Region, and we are committed to doing something about the shortage of equipment for our frontline healthcare providers. Everyone knows someone within the Healthcare Industry. These people are nurses, doctors, x-ray techs, ultrasound techs, paramedics, clinical assistants, patient services assistants, porters, ward clerks, respiratory therapy technicians, surgical technicians, cardiovascular technicians, and laboratory technicians to name a few. Most importantly, though, they are our Mothers, Fathers, Daughters, Sons, Brothers, Sisters, Cousins, Friends and Neighbours. So, this cause should hit close to home for all of us. As we sit here safe at home practicing our social distancing, we can’t help but feel a wave of crushing negative emotions surrounding the fact these beautiful people don’t have the necessary equipment to stay safe during this pandemic that is COVID-19. We can not imagine how these brave people must feel knowing they may show up for their shift to treat our sick without the proper equipment to keep them safe. There are approximately 5400 front line workers at Lakeridge Health. Under normal conditions, they would use a new mask every time they treated an infected patient. Today they are being instructed to limit their mask usage to just ONE per shift due to the extreme shortage in their supply chain. ONE per shift is not the safety protocol we deemed appropriate when these masks were abundant. Even while limiting usage, they will run out if we don’t do something to help.
After speaking at length with Fred Kalina, the Director of Account Management at Lakeridge Health, we now have a full, itemized list of needs for our front line workers, and these items are required ASAP. Of urgent need are surgical masks, full face shields, fluid shield masks, gowns, safety goggles, and Tyvek suits.
We have been fortunate enough to find an honest and reliable, local source of medical-grade, FDA approved equipment outside of Lakeridge Health’s typical supply chain. With the help of our good friend Peter Hutchinson, Purchasing Specialist at Timbren Industries in Whitby, we were connected with Brad Carr. Brad is the owner/operator of CCS Industrials, a large distribution company, open since 1976, with four locations throughout Southern Ontario. With over 650 trusted suppliers and excellent, hard-working staff, they were able to source this FDA approved equipment at a reasonable price. Under half the price of what we were able to source on our own! They have donated countless hours sourcing and negotiating the very best price for us, and we couldn’t have made this happen without them! Brad has two close family members who are frontline healthcare workers, one of which is his 26-year-old daughter, this cause hits close to home for him and his family.
We have decided to allot the first $30,000 to the purchase of 30,000 FDA approved, medical-grade surgical masks as they are in dire need and short supply at Lakeridge Health. As we continue to raise funds, we will check in with Fred and Lakeridge Health to determine what our future funds should be used to acquire based on supply and availability.
Below we will share everything we have regarding these masks and the purchase in general. We have secured these masks, and they are on the way! The only variable we have now is there is no control over shipping time. No companies will give any guarantees for delivery time with everything going on right now in the world. We paid for express air, so no matter what, this is the quickest, most direct route. GoFundMe takes 2-5 business days to release funds, we are still waiting, for now, we have secured this shipment with our own personal credit card so we could place this order ASAP.
In this Update, you will find the following:
1. Purchase order from CCS Industrials for 30,000 FDA approved surgical masks totalling $29,832.00CAD with HST.
This particular supplier has been working with CCS for over ten years. They are an extremely trusted source.
2. FDA certificate for the manufacture of the masks.
3. The manufacture listed within the FDA’s database on their website site.
4. A screenshot of an email chain proving we confirmed these masks would be used at Lakeridge Health.
5. Pictures of our order in our shipper's possession!
Thank you again, everyone, for your continued support. We will continue to communicate with Lakeridge Health to see and source what equipment is most important. As soon as we raise enough to make another purchase, we will update you all again!
Thank you so much for helping us secure some much-needed equipment to help keep our frontline safe.
Any leftover funds will go directly to the Lakeridge Health Foundation. But for now, we want to deliver the physical product to avoid any red tape that may delay getting these masks here.
