Mason's diabetic story
Donation protected
My name is Mason and I am 11-years-old. I have been a Type I, insulin dependent diabetic, since I was 11-months old. I do not remember NOT being diabetic!
It is very difficult to manage diabetes, as a kid, although I have a great family to help me along the way.
I am old enough to understand that I am very lucky my family has insurance, as taking care of a diabetic child is VERY expensive. Even WITH insurance the out-of-pocket costs are huge.
I have a couple of things going on this year. The first is that I have been selected to attend a special event in Washington DC to represent kids with diabetes. We will be speaking with Congress to explain the importance of funding for research and diabetic supplies being affordable, etc. All diabetics want a cure! Some of this trip is paid for -- thank goodness.
The other big thing is that I'm due for a new insulin pump this summer. The pump has always been covered by insurance, but for some reason now, it is not covered until AFTER our deductible has been met. Our deductible is thousands of dollars.
My parents are awesome and do everything they can for me. But this year is going to be especially tough!
I really want to help my parents out. So, with the help of my Uncle Randy, I want to raise the money for my parents.
I appreciate anything you can do to help!
