Help Melissa Smile After Stroke
Donation protected
Let me tell you about Melissa, my beautiful, silly, smart, loving daughter and single mother of two; Zac, 20 and Allie, 15. She needs the help of family, friends and her community!
What happened
This young 37 year old woman so full of life, who suddenly was just as scared and helpless as a child, when on Jan. 3, 2018 tragedy struck......she suffered a stroke.
She was sent by Ambulance to St. Peter's ER on Jan 4, 2018, and admitted. She had MRI/MRA/ECHO/CT's multiple blood tests to find the cause of the stroke. She spent a week on their Neuro Unit, receiving wonderful care, and Speech, Occupational, and Physical Therapy. Her type of stroke affected the speech/language center of her brain, she has what is called "Gertsmann-Syndrome", it has 4 primary symptoms. Deficiency in the ability to write/read, difficulty in learning math, inability to distinguish the fingers on the hand, and not knowing left from right. This also effected the vision in her Right eye; she has a 45 degree field vision cut and at this point unable to drive.
She has a long road of therapy ahead of her, she has to re-learn to read and write; and her numbers; so we're not sure at this point if she'll be able to get back to the job she once held but we're extremely hopeful.
How you can help
This Go Fund Me page is to help defray some of her out of pocket Medical costs not covered by insurance (at least $6550), as well as help with some living expenses for her and Allie, as she still does not know how long she'll be out of work. Her neurologist projected it could be as long as 4-6 months.
Those of you who are patients at Hackney Family Dentistry have probably been missing that friendly smiling face from upfront, and wondering where she was. Well that is our Melissa , and this is her story. Please help get the story out and get Melissa back to work, and her smiling face back at Hackney's front desk where she belongs. Thank you so very much!!
