Memorial & Funeral Fund for Mark Beard

Hello all! Almost a year ago, at the beginning of the pandemic, we lost our step-father and our mom lost her best friend and loving husband, Mark. His passing was sudden and not expected. The loss has been devastating emotionally and financially.
Some may wonder ‘didn’t they have life insurance to help’? Our parents had a life insurance policy that was in place for 20 years. A family friend who worked for an insurance company had discussed with them look to move their policy to them due to the high rates they were paying. In November, 6 months before our father passed, they decided to let that friend help them. Unfortunately, he did not do his due diligence in placing the policy to ensure a true take over. When a covered individual dies within 2 years of policy placement the insurance company can contest the claim. That is what happened in this case and the claim was denied.
We have looked at perusing legal action against the insurance company and agent but due to Iowa state laws, we are unable to. Having the life insurance money would have gone to helping pay for bills, Mark’s funeral, and a headstone. Without it, we have not been able to properly grieve or celebrate his life.
That brings us to GoFundMe. Our mom is the strongest woman we know. While she insists she is fine. In fact, she said, “I feel there are others who are hurting more than I am and they need more help than I do. I am fine.” We love that about her, but my sister and I don’t want our mom to just be fine. We want her to live and flourish. We want her to be able to celebrate Mark.
Anyone that knew Mark knew how much joy he brought to others. Our parents were always serving others through church and on their own. They have always been there for us so it seems only appropriate that we help her any way we can. Family meant everything to our father and we know in our hearts that he would want us to do everything in our power to help our mom.
Please know that we are very much aware of what is going on in the world and are sympathetic that many others have been going through this as well. If you’re not able to donate but could help by sharing this post we would be so grateful!
Mark will always be in our hearts and we are so blessed to have had him in our lives for as long as we did. He is now in his forever home with God and his family that are no longer with us as well. He believed that was his next stepping point and we are thankful he is home now.
