Memorial for Sharron Huckabee Smith

Donation protected
In October 2022, my friend Sharron was diagnosed with a malignant brain tumor. She was given only months to live. For the past 2 years me and another friend Gene M., have spent many days with Sharron as her husband Gene continued to work. We shared our faith, our family history and childhood adventures, tears and many laughs. Help me celebrate the life she lived and support her husband Gene with medical and funeral expenses related to her care.

Sharron was a loving mother and a devoted wife and friend. After an almost two-year battle against Glioblastoma brain cancer, she died Wednesday, October 2, 2024.

She was born September 20, 1949, in Thomasville, Alabama and was a native of Marengo County, Alabama. She graduated from Sweet Water High School. She began her most loved profession, which was journalism, as a correspondent with the Mobile Press Register in 1984. In 1988, she joined the Clanton Advertiser, a member of Boone Newspaper group, where she worked as a staff writer and wrote a southern gospel music column. She was promoted to Classified Advertising Director and began training classified sales and service representatives. She transferred to the Newnan Times Herald in Newnan, GA, advancing to Classified News Manager. Afterwards she named General Manager of the South-Central Alabama Classified Marketplace and retired in 2013.
Sharron and Gene are members of St. James Methodist Church, Montgomery, Alabama. They were involved in many church activities and ministries before her brain surgery and diagnosis. She served and volunteered with various civic organizations, including the Alabama Chapter of Business and Professional Women and the Wynlakes Women’s Club.
