We are Metro East Friends of Ferals doing TNR in Madison and St. Clair Counties in Illinois.
Animals are suffering and facing a sad reality. We've just begun working in a new area of Pontoon Beach / Granite City, Illinois and these animals desperately need our help.
We’ve discovered several feral cat colonies in Pontoon Beach which total well over 250 cats in each location. The problem is serious, and the numbers continue to grow. The cat’s situation is grim, and many of these animals are in immediate danger. They take care of themselves the best they can in a world that is hostile and dangerous for them. Long term survival rate is very low and walking into this environment is heartbreaking. This situation has been brought on by irresponsible humans, but these cats and kittens are paying the price.
These cats live sad lives and struggle daily just to survive. We have witnessed kittens dead or dying because the mama cat can’t produce enough milk (because she is starving herself) to feed them. There are unkind humans that torture and kill them. They face horrible fates and death from injuries, parasites, starvation, diseases, predators, poisoning, being shot, drowned, burned, and being hit by cars. There was even a cat that someone wrapped in duct tape!
Most community cats are not adoptable, and shelters are not a hospitable environment for these felines. Feral cats exhibit wild, shy, or frightened behavior due to their lack of socialization with humans which makes them unadoptable. There are only so many barn homes out there, so, what do we do to help these poor creatures live the life they deserve? The answer is TNVR (Trap, Neuter, Vaccinate, & Release) TNVR is the road to no-kill shelters and a humane solution to a community problem.
Who are we? We are a grassroots group of volunteers and trappers with boots on the ground in these colonies, trying to make a difference. We donate our time, attention, money and resources to cleaning up these colonies, getting them healthy, and getting them fixed. We foster and adopt the babies and friendly cats and the feral adults are released back into their familiar environment. We do it for our community and we do it to help these animals live safe and healthy lives.
How can YOU help? Get involved! Donate, Volunteer, Foster and Speak up!!! Help us help them.
We hope you will consider giving a monetary gift to this cause. Since we are volunteers, 100% of your donations will go directly to the animals. Your donations will be used to cover the cost of surgery, vaccinations, flea treatment, medical treatment, and food. The cost is about $60 per cat. We would be beyond appreciative for every donation no matter how big or small. Thank You!
