La maglia che Michael Jordan indossò a Trieste nel 1985 è riapparsa 35 anni dopo la schiacciata più strabiliante della sua carriera.
Michael Jeffrey Jordan, il più grande di sempre, disputò una partita amichevole contro la Mobilgirgi Juvecaserta, rappresentando la Stefanel Trieste, durante un tour organizzato dalla Nike per promuovere la sua nuova linea di scarpe, le ormai famosissime Air Jordan. MJ fece sognare i triestini per una notte, segnando 41 punti, distruggendo un tabellone con una schiacciata e regalando la vittoria a Trieste dopo un tempo supplementare. La divisa targata Piubello Sport, donata dopo la partita a Giuseppe "Bepi" Stefanel (allora presidente e proprietario della Pallacanestro Trieste), è stata messa all'asta il 18 Novembre scorso dalla Sotheby's, nota casa d'aste con sede a New York, ad un prezzo di partenza di $300,000, ed il suo valore finale verrà battuto il 3 Dicembre. Noi della pagina Michael Jordan in Trieste, presente su tutte le principali piattaforme social, ci occupiamo da anni di diffondere notizie e curiosità sulla partita svoltasi a Chiarbola in quel lontano 26 Agosto 1985, postando foto, video, interviste a giocatori e staff dell'epoca e quant'altro. Il nostro obbiettivo fino ad ora è stato quello di creare un punto di riferimento per tutti gli appassionati di quella che è passata alla storia come "Shattered Backboard" game, ma adesso ci siamo posti un nuovo e ed ambizioso obiettivo: riportare la storica divisa nero-arancione lì, dove tutto ebbe inizio.
È il nostro momento. Riportiamola a casa!
Abbiamo creato questa raccolta fondi e deciso di fissare il nostro obiettivo a €700.000 (Circa $830,000) per riuscire, con il vostro aiuto a riportare la divisa a Chiarbola, ed esporla in maniera permanente nel palazzetto dove tutto è iniziato! Ci siamo già messi in contatto con il Comune di Trieste, che ci ha gentilmente accordato fin da subito la piena ed immediata disponibilità.
Le proiezioni di riferimento, riportate da Sotheby's stimano che il valore finale potrebbe aggirarsi attorno ai $500,000 anche se naturalmente fino al 3 Dicembre 2020 non esistono certezze assolute sul prezzo finale. Raccogliendo la cifra che ci siamo prefissati, puntiamo a vincere l'asta e utilizzare il resto dei fondi per le seguenti procedure legate al suo acquisto:
• Esposizione della divisa al palazzetto di Chiarbola, Trieste, con un'adeguato sistema di sicurezza e stipula di un'assicurazione "Oggetti di valore", per garantirne la protezione
• Affissione di una targa commemorativa all'esterno del palazzetto, per ricordare la partita di quel 26 Agosto 1985
• Creazione di una mostra permanente nell'atrio del palazzetto, con ingrandimenti degli scatti più memorabili dell'evento
• Affissione di una targa commemorativa all'interno del palazzetto, situata accanto alla divisa, munita di QR code che sarà collegato ad una pagina web nel quale sarà presente l'elenco di persone che hanno partecipato alla donazione
• Creazione e manutenzione del sito web ufficiale, dove verranno condivise news, ed iniziative future - Nel sito sarà presente una sezione che darà spazio ad idee ed opinioni, in maniera tale da investire i fondi raccolti in iniziative di interesse per tutti coloro che hanno a cuore questo progetto
• Organizzazione dell'evento di inaugurazione della mostra permanente presso il palazzetto di Chiarbola
Insieme possiamo rendere questo sogno realtà! Riportare la divisa a Trieste, significherebbe rendere immortale quel pezzo di storia così importante per la pallacanestro del nostro paese, che quel lontano Agosto di 35 anni fa fu testimone della nascita di una leggenda, che di lì a poco avrebbe dimostrato il suo valore nell'NBA e nel basket mondiale.

The jersey Michael Jordan wore in Trieste back in 1985 has made a comeback 35 years after the most incredible dunk of his career.
Michael Jeffrey Jordan, the GOAT, represented Stefanel Trieste in an exhibition game against Juvecaserta, which was part of a tour organized by Nike to promote its newest basketball shoes, the now legendary Air Jordans. MJ made the Triestines dream for one night, by scoring 41 points, shattering a backboard with a dunk and leading Trieste to the win after an overtime. The jersey, manufactured by Piubello Sport, was donated to Giuseppe "Bepi" Stefanel (then controlling owner and president of Pallacanestro Trieste) after the game, and is going under the hammer as part of the Sotheby’s auction started on November 18, with a starting price of $300,000, and its final price to be decided on December 3. We, the Michael Jordan in Trieste management team, are present across all the major social platforms, and have been working for several years on sharing information and news about the game that took place in Chiarbola on August 26th, 1985, by posting photos, videos, interviews of former players and staff and more. Our aim until now was to create a virtual “meeting point” for all of those that are passionate about the so-called “Shattered Backboard" game, but now we have set a new and ambitious goal: bringing back that historical black and orange jersey, to where it all happened.
It’s our time. Let’s bring it back home!
We have created a GoFundMe, with the goal being €700.000 (About $830,000), to get, with your help, the jersey displayed permanently at Chiarbola, where it all started! We have already obtained the approval of the local council, which has guaranteed its full support.
Sotheby’s projections suggest that the final price could reach $500,000 even though, until December 3rd, 2020, there are no guarantees about it. By reaching our goal, we aim at winning the auction and then use the rest of the money for the following purposes related to the purchase:
• The set-up of a secure display of the jersey at Chiarbola, with CCTV and a “Valuable Items” insurance, given the value of the item
• Posting of a commemorative plate on the outside of the arena to remember the August 26th, 1985 exhibition game
• Setting up of a permanent display at the entrance of the arena, with enlargements of the most memorable shots of the event
• Posting of a commemorative plate inside the arena next to the jersey, with a QR code linked to a web page containing all the names of those that have contributed to the donation
• Creation and maintenance of an official website, that will post news and future initiatives – The website will feature a section dedicated to the public’s ideas and opinions, so to invest the funds in initiatives that are in the interest of those that contributed to the project
• Organization of the opening event of the permanent display at Chiarbola
Together we can make this dream come true! Bringing the jersey back to Trieste would mean making this incredible chapter in the basketball history of our country, eternal and immortal, a country that had the opportunity to witness the birth of a star, that shortly after proved his value in the NBA and the rest of the world.
