I've known Michele Louis Simelane for over two decades as one of my
son's dearest friends. She and I grew close over the
years, and I love her humor, her perceptive insights, her beauty,
kindness, integrity, curiosity, sense of adventure, loyalty,
and spirituality. I am honored that her parents are two of my very
closest friends with whom I spend a great deal of time.
When Michele was diagnosed with acute lymphocytic leukemia, 15 years
ago I spent many hours with her in the hospital and when she got
well, I spent many hours with her sharing confidences and
philosophies. The crushing reality that she is fighting cancer again
is unthinkable, but true. Here is her story and the reason for this
request.
Michele was diagnosed with stage four triple negative breast cancer one and a half years ago.
We celebrated these many years of her being in remission so this current diagnosis was extremely devastating.
This time around, Michele endured conventional treatments for 10 months. Although chemo was provided and full radiation was offered the outcome was a dead end.
Luckily, and at the right moment, her hopes were rekindled when she came in contact with survivors, who had embraced an alternative approach that employed their own immune system to fight the disease. This protocol includes multifaceted approaches: supplements, strict diet, three treatments a week and specialized equipment
The protocol is demanding and expensive. Unfortunately it is not covered by insurance putting a huge burden on Michele, her family and those who love her.
Touched by the magnitude of the financial obligations that this treatment entails, many close friends asked how they could help and initially we were reluctant to seek out financial assistance. It was finally realized that Go Fund Me would be a good vehicle through which to raise some of the money needed to cover these expenses. From the onset, the family has shouldered the costs and will continue to do so, but the projected expenses are more then they are able to manage alone.
The regimen must continue and, based on how much has been expended, $50,000 would provide the continuation of this approach which has been very beneficial to Michele.
I believe Michele will get through this. With your generous support this can certainly become a reality.
