Burlington 7301 Restoration
Donation protected
On behalf of the Midland Railway Historical Association, we thank you for taking the time to look at and donate to our organization.
This Go Fund Me Account was set up to help save a piece of railroad history built in 1916, the "Burlington 7301 Combine/Passenger Coach". Over the past few years, this historic passenger car was being worked on. It was in operating condition and we used it regularly prior to major wheel work that needed to be fixed. During the time it was having major wheel work, vandals attacked the passenger car with rocks, kicked in doors and windows, spray painted the interior walls and seats, and stripped the generator section of the car of its copper and electrical components.
Your gracious giving will be used to fix the following vandalism: new glass for the windows, new window frames, repainting the interior, new electrical components, new doors at each end of the car, reupholstering the damaged seats and new flooring due to the weather damage from the broken windows...just to name a few. Estimates are well over $40,000.00 but we hope even half of that with volunteer labor and supplies can get this piece of history back running on the rails and hauling passengers! We hope we can raise $20,000.00 to assist with fixing the damage.
The sooner we are able to fund the project, the quicker the repairs can be made to save this car from even more damage by vandals.
How great it would be to have this passenger car back in service and free from the damage that has been caused. This would allow Midland Railway to offer more visitors a peek back in the past!
The Midland Railway Historical Association’s primary goal is to obtain and restore historically significant railroad artifacts and equipment to foster the public’s awareness and appreciation of railroading, both past and present. Our organization utilizes this equipment in the operation of a common carrier demonstration passenger excursion railroad entirely volunteer-staffed and operated. The Midland Railway Historical Association is a not-for-profit, educational, charitable IRS 501(c)(3) tax-exempt corporation.
THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH!
Here is what it looked like in 2003 after it was restored. It is a beautiful piece of history!
