Mike Mattioli, multiple Myeloma
Donation protected
This past spring Mike Mattioli 57 was diagnosed with multiple myeloma, a cancer of the plasma cells which are found in the bone. The good news is his doctors, nurses and medical techs at Hillman Cancer Center in Pittsburgh are second to none. Also, it was discovered early on and that is very encouraging.
Mike underwent radiation therapy in June and three initial cycles of chemo this past fall. The next phase of his treatment is a stem cell transplant or bone marrow transplant, which is scheduled for this February, followed by more chemo. The risks involved are serious due to the fact that his immune system will be virtually non-existent for a while.
The consensus by the doctors is that this disease is treatable but not curable. Mike will be on maintenance medication for the rest of his life.
His insurance covers but a portion of his treatment. Moreover, he will be out of work and unable to be in contact with people for what could be up to 90 days. Mike is a commissioned salesman and, as such, will have no means of income for as long as he is unable to work. As if fighting an illness like this isn't enough, the question of how to pay for living expenses with two kids in college just adds to the stress.
This is where friends & community can help Mike and his family through this tough stretch.
Please join me in donating whatever you can to help Mike beat this disease!!
All of your prayers, support, help and love are so greatly appreciated.
Thank you and God bless!
