As many of us know, Jeanne Armbruster, has been putting up quite the courageous fight with cancer. Jeanne is a truly amazing and inspirational woman who has a passion for fitness and health. Throughout the years, she's managed to foster and encourage that same passion into many friend's and family member's lives. Some have supported her being by her side, some in prayer, some with gifts, some with well wishes. I don't know about you, but I continually find myself wanting to do more but not knowing what to do. Like Jeanne, I love to run and the other night, while out on a run, an idea of how to give back hit me harder than the wind....

Over the next few days leading up to June 1st, you will be invited to join a Facebook group called, #MilesforJeanne. Members of this group will commit to run/exercise to raise money that will be given directly to the Armbruster family. By joining this group we have a deal. You will post your miles and I will log them and will help motivate you to reach the goal of completing 100 miles in the month of June. By joining this group you also agree to donate a minimum of 10 cents per mile you complete. A Go Fund Me account will be set up and you will be able to donate at anytime throughout the course of the month. Choose which is easier for you - donate after each time you log miles, at the beginning, at the end of each week, or at the end of the challenge.
Here's how you earn a mile:
1 Run or Walk mile = 1 mile
10 minute swim, bike, elliptical, stairs, etc. = 1 mile
When you complete your miles, post it to the group. This will help me to keep the log and it will help motivate the others in the group! It might even encourage some friendly competition ;) Please, please, please invite your friends and family members to join in the challenge. Maybe you know someone who is unable to run or exercise but would like to donate - you do the work and they give the money! Make it a competition - get a group of friends together and the person who logs the least amount of miles in the month has to contribute an additional $100! Find a sponsor - seek out individuals who would be willing to match or double or even triple your donations.
As an addition to this and as a way to get students and families involved we will have a new and gently used shoe drive in Jeanne's honor on Wednesday, June 8th. Families can send in shoes that will then be given to a local charity to help children in our city in need of shoes. ALSO, you are encouraged to get your students moving to log some miles, too! You can take your kids outside and walk a mile around the playground. You could have them do 10 exercises for one minute each to equal a mile. You can add this to your monthly total if you wished!
Our goal in this challenge is to show Jeanne support, not only financially, but by honoring her through physical activity. Logging 100 miles in 30 days may seem difficult to you right now but can you imagine the fight she's been battling? Challenge your body. Challenge your mind. Challenge your ability to give. Take her with you out on those runs and lift her up in prayer and thought.
Because remember, no one fights alone....
