Mitch's Machine

Hi there! We’re the Robert’s. We are a tribe of 3; consisting of Mom (Kelley), Dad (Marc) and our differently-abled superhero kiddo Mitch! Mitchell was born with a neurological condition that negatively impacts him in many ways.  At 8 months old he had his first seizure and was subsequently diagnosed with Epilepsy and Global Delay, which brought with it a slew of other health and mobility challenges including; hearing and vision impairment, intellectual disability, an inability to speak or to sit/stand unassisted. He relies on support from his parents and care givers to complete all his daily routines and requires equipment to facilitate all of his mobility needs.

Mitchell is a mover and a shaker. Full of laughter and a TON of energy. Let’s face it, a life on wheels is fun, but also extremely challenging! Enter the miracle that is Trexo Robotics https://trexorobotics.com/ and their invention ,which we have affectionately coined ‘Mitch’s Machine’! This equipment will not only encourage Mitchell to stand upright and weight bear… it allows for him to experience the freedom of walking and gives him the tools to develop the strength and muscle control to take his own steps!  All this, while delivering the physical benefits associated with exercise and movement. 

With real time data, it will help us to track his progress in measurable ways so we can see his opportunities and celebrate his successes!  As his muscles get stronger this device can reduce its support in sync with Mitchell’s increased ability to walk. It will also grow with Mitchell until he’s 5’8 allowing us to log many miles down the road!

Mitchell’s life is full of barriers. Through hard work and dedication Mitch continues to get stronger every day. The job of any parent is to help their child explore the world and reach their full potential. Our hope is that this piece of equipment will help us unlock some of Mitch’s potential.  Whether that be learning to walk independently or using the Trexo to access the world with a little less barrier and a lot more freedom!
