Montys ER Vet Care Bills from a viscous dog

Donation protected
In the early hours this past Friday, my niece Jennifer took her dog Monty out so he could relieve himself. Out of the darkness their lives and health were viscously attacked by a 95-100 lb, running wild loose aggressive Pit-Bull! Brazen and evil, it attacked Jennifer trying to pull her down by her ankles.

Monty saw his “mommy” was being attacked and instantly jumped into action to save her. Montys bravery and heroism saved Jennifer from extreme injury except several deep bites. Monty truly saved Jennifer's but at peril to his own life. He has a broken front leg and 59 bite wounds as well as punctures to his skull and through his entire face cheeks!

The attack lasted 45 minutes! The attacking dog even squeezed itself inside the door if Jennifer’s home and followed she and Monty all the way up stairs…still in full attack mode!

A grown man saw what was happening and came to the rescue with a BAT TO defend Jennifer and Monty INSIDIE the home!!

Monty’s broken front leg and his wounds are stitched and stapled. His skull was punctured. Other punctures went through his cheeks and upper and lower jaw, face, neck. His under belly, his rear end and hind quarters, have bites and his legs are black and blue! (Poor guy, even his “pee-pee” has bites through it!)

His wounds are severe enough that drains had to be placed which also require more Vet visits to remove them in 3-4 days, as well as visits to come for staples and stitches removal in 12-14 days.

Jennifer has been sick and unable to work at all the last several weeks before this attack and only got out of the hospital a few days before this attack. Cancer is never fun. She was hospitalized for a procedure after months of severely reduced working hours (10-12 hours a week) due to the medical treatments she had to undergo.

Finances are very tight due to her medical conditions right now so the very expensive emergency Vet bills couldn't have come at a worse time. Monty is Jens guardian angel and so he had to be saved. Jennifer had to spend the electric bill money she had gathered to stop the electric companys disconnection of service …to save Montys life! The reality for her was having power vs saving the puppy, no questions asked her decision would be every time to save Monty.

However it is summer and if the power gets disconnected, it will make Monty and Jens stress level go through the roof. They need peace and a healthy healing environment.

The OWNER of the ATTACKING DOG has NOT been IDENTIFIED.

The neighbor who helped rescue them THINKS that he might have identified the apartment where it might have come from.! This dog has been running loose and killing neighborhood ferel cats and attacked at lease one other dog. Thank God it got trapped in her place when it followed she and Monty inside. The Dog Warden has it now. I don’t know what else is going on with that dog.

So any money anyone could help them with so Monty can go to the follow up Vet appointments he needs. They can have electricity on in the home to keep it cool and provide a more comfortable healing environment is extremely appreciated and they are very very grateful for anyone's help in this awful situation.

Update as of Tuesday afternoon,
Monty has an appointment today at 4 at his Veteranian to have the drains removed and to check his wounds for infection.  Also his face is very bruised and swollen on the right side along with his right eye being swollen closed except for the puss coming out.  Hopefully the Vet can get him all fixed up and the infection taken care of.  I will update after seeing the Veteranian.

Update on Monty after he saw his Veteranian today at 4pm:

The Vet removed all staples from his body as well as all drains.  She gave him a single shot of very strong antibiotics that will work for 14 days.  She gave him a shot of a strong nsaid to help reduce swelling, a shot of nausea medication to help him hold down water because he hasn't be able to keep much down yet.  She also gave him an injection of steroids to help him heal and reduce some pain.  She increased his dose of gabapentin from 200mg to 300mg every 8 hours.  Also they cleaned up all of his wounds again to help keep infections from happening.  And lastly she gave me oral suspension meloxicam to start in the morning to help with pain and swelling.

Since he hasn't been able to eat any food yet because of his severe oral injuries, facial swelling and horrific facial bruising, if he still hurts too bad to eat by morning, she told me to call first thing and she would prescribe him a oral suspension liquid I can squirt by syringe into his mouth with the nutrients he needs in it.

They truly were great with him today and I wish I would have been able to have them treat him when the attack first happened because they really worked fast, did an amazing job, actually took the time and had the knowledge to get him the best cocktail of medications to get him feeling better as fast as possible with as little discomfort as possible.  Creekside Animal Clinic in Norton just gained a patient for life,  They really treated him as if he were their own.

1 week post attack update:
Monty is doing significantly better!  He still has quite a lot of healing and recovery to do, but he has been making awesome progress these last few days!

Wednesday before anyone got him to eat and hold it down, he had no energy and would just lay there looking at Jennifer with sad puppy eyes.  By the time Jennifer drove from Creekside Animal Clinic to her house after they got an entire chicken in gravy baby food jar in him and it stayed down, Monty was trying to stand up when they arrived home.

Then Thursday, he barked 2 quick barks when a visitor stopped by, which was the first sound he's made other than crying since before the attack.  Thursday night however he really showed proof he's getting better and will be back to himself sooner than later.  When Jennifer put him on the floor of her bedroom while she ran outside to see her parents, Monty was feeling so much better, he jumped up onto the bed and waited for mommy's to return on his terms, which is phenomenal since 24 hours earlier he wouldn't even stand up to pee.  He also started wagging his tail again last night, which is a sight for sore eyes.  Today he continues to improve by leaps and bounds and so does his appetite, which is fantastic and we couldn't be happier.

We know that his progress is going so well thanks to all of your prayers, thank you all for praying and keeping our sweet boy in your thoughts, it's definitely working!!
