Help Me to Honor My Hero My Father. . .
Hello my name is Derick. I am here to tell you about one of my greatest hero’s. His name is Dirk. He is my Dad. He is a humble, quiet, reserved man who has spent his life in service to others. His strength and resolve have inspired me to be the man I am today. His examples of tender and kind love towards my mother and myself have shown me what it means to be a true man. In both the good times and the bad times he has shown me that it is most important to keep a positive attitude and mindset about things. His sense of humor has kept my spirits high through several really rough years.
Some History. . .
My Father was a sailor aboard a submarine. Where he spent nine years traveling around the world to defend our freedoms during a difficult time in our nations history. He was in the service during the end of the Vietnam War and most of the cold war. During his time in the service some friends convinced him to join the local volunteer fire squad. The firehouse is where he would eventually meet my mother. It was his first day of CPR training and my mother was there getting her certification as she was joining the paramedic crew. She saw him and walked up and told him she would marry him one day. Several years later she did indeed marry him. During his time as a firefighter he ran rescue and worked fires. After leaving the fire squad he went on to become a Registered Nurse. He would spend the next 15 years dedicated to working in the Intensive Care Unit. Where he would see people at their worst moments and try to help them back to health. So it’s not hard for me to say that he has literally spent his life dedicated to defending, rescuing, and healing others.
The Point. . .
That brings me to the point of this page. In the last three years my father has had a very hard fight. In October 2011 he spent 30 days in the Critical Care Unit on a ventilator due to a severe infection. Because of this fact he became very weak and has spent the last three years battling to get back to where he was prior to the illness. Each time he has a monumental step forward there has been a devastating set back. He is now doing the best that he has ever done and is well one the road to full recovery. All of this has however lead to some serious medical bills. It has been a real struggle to dig out from under the weight of these bills. I am currently unable to work as I am his live in caregiver and companion. I am asking for your help to make this Christmas one of the best he has known.
My hope. . .
I am hoping that with your help and generosity I will be able to pay off most of if not all the medical bills and catch up on the other bills. We have some other needs that have arisen ie our only vehicle needs a new tire. There are a few other little things going that we are tryign to address. Any help that you offer is amazing. If you have any questions please send me an email.
THANK YOU!. . .
I want to say thank you for your time and your consideration. Please fell free to leave prayers or well wishes for dad. Like I said he is my hero, help me to honor him this Christmas season! May God bless you and keep you.
