About a month after turning 49, David Nadler suffered a seizure on 5/21/21 while having dinner. Within an hour of arriving at the ER, Adrian and David were greeted and diagnosed by an (unexpected & familiar) ER doctor, Dr. Chip Halpern (big brother of one of Adrian's college besties, Rebecca Halpern) with a double butterfly glioblastoma = two tumors on each frontal lobe.
David and Adrian have visited 4 hospitals, in 4 different states within 3 months (IL, TX, NC, CO) to maximize David's quality of life as they work through this incurable and cruel disease. David chose to get treatment at Duke where the focus was on shrinking the tumors to allow David as much time as possible with family and friends.
This past year has been hard with the pandemic but insurmountably difficult for the Nadler/Fogel family. Compounding this sudden tragic news in the middle of a move to CO due to Raleigh's academic needs and Adrian needing to forego employment at this time due to caring for David.
We're mobilizing support to help this family try to reset and begin their new life in CO as they work through David's prognosis and the many expenses including hospital bills, treatments, medication, and beyond. Treatment needs to date have bankrupted the family and while they are relentlessly looking for hope and healing, the financial stress of this has made this unfathomable.
