National Board Certification-Math
I am a math teacher at a world-renowned public magnet high school in San Francisco. I get to teach teach high-achieving, high-poverty urban students—mostly students of color—to love math and to become successful in their lives through mathematical achievement.
In order to improve my craft and to raise my rather meager salary, I am working toward becoming a National Board Certified Teacher — the highest level of certification possible for a public school teacher — but I am overwhelmed by the size of the fees required and the absense of financial support available to new or renewing candidates.
Policymakers and philanthropists all talk about how important a fantastic teacher is, but none of them are willing to help defray the costs of becoming certifiably fantastic. I find this short-sighted but I refuse to be deterred.
I am starting the process now but expect it to take up to two years. My anticipated completion date is November of 2017.
The money will be used to pay the fees for each of the four components I need to complete. Each component costs approximately $450-500. In addition, there is a support program that you really need in order to succeed, but my school is paying for that.
I will have to do a great deal of writing, planning, videotaping, editing, and analyzing my results to prepare each of the four submissions.
So what I need is help in paying all the fees for the privilege of doing all this hard work to improve my craft and outcomes for all of my very deserving students.
I would be enormously grateful for your support!
