Welcome to our fundraising campaign!
UPDATE
English:
Hello everybody!
We want to thank you for all of your support.
Thank you for the financial contributions, without which the project could never take place.
Thank you for diligently spreading the fundraising campaign in various media - be it small articles, circular emails, encouraging Whatsapp messages or word of mouth.
Thank you, even for reading or watching. We are happy about every single person who closely follows our campaign.
You all made it possible that we can now start our project. We raised the sum even faster than we thought possible! You have directly supported 10 people from Lukwambe to create a new, life-changing source of income. You saw many of the members in the video. Every euro from your accounts flows directly into their projects. Without any detours.
However, the campaign is not over yet. The more people keep chicken, the more fixed costs, such as transport by minibus or vaccines (some ampoules are enough for 1000 chickens), are reduced. If anyone wants to continue spending money, they are welcome to do so. With every 100EUR, one more person can take part - the demand in Lukwambe is there!
We are now in the process of planning the test trial. We ordered 20 chickens in Morogogo and converted an unused house in the camp into a chicken coop. The chicks will hatch on March 25th. We will bring them to camp and raise them. In this way, all participants can learn for their own chickens. When a cycle is complete and everything works as planned, we will start with all the participants.
We will continue to update the campaign. You can follow the progress of the project live on Instagram!

again,
One last big thank you to everyone and greetings from Tanzania!

German:
Hallo an alle!

Also nochmal,
ein letztes großes Dankeschön an Alle und liebe Grüße aus Tanzania!

OUR PROJECT
First things first: our project name.
It unites three places and three groups of people. NGER stand for the Ngerengere River Eco Camp, where Francis and Theo work. UKWA for the village Lukwambe and VI fort he Division Visakazi, that also includes the city Bwawani.
We are (Francis and Theo) are writing this text from the Ngerengere River Eco Camp. We want to raise money in order to give microcredits to the people of Lukwambe.
General information
Lukwambe is a small village inmidst the tanzanian bush, near Morogoro. Currently, about 600 people live there. The population is very diverse: There are members of the Zigua, Kwere, Luguru, Doe, Iraq`w and Maasai. As their vehicular language, they use Kiswahili. From the Eco Camp, it is a walkable distance of about 3km to Lukwambe. That`s why we, from the Eco Camp stay in close contact with them. We watch football together, talk with them at Hashimu`s shop, or have a nice banana wine.
Economical and environemental situation
The people in Lukwambe Village are largely relying on the production of charcoal, in order to cover their basic needs. It is a very hard work, that is destroying the dense bush, that is naturally growing here. Mostly big, old trees are cut, that are essential for the ecosystem. The land is then threatened by erosion and desertification. It also provides less food and medicine to the people.
Because of their little income, a lot of people are not able to send their children to secondary school (8th-12th class). Out of about 50 children, who classified for secondary school the last years, only five are attending it now.
Social situation
The village lacks a hospital or dispensery. The next access to medical service is 20km away from them.
Lukwambe has no access to tap water, neither grid power. Therefore many use untreated water from the river. As the river is only seasonal, it contains almost no water during the dry season. The water from the remaining ponds is a possible cause for Cholera, Typhoid, Salmonella and more diseases.
Because of this, the Eco Camp has started distributing waterpurification tablets in 2017 and encouraged to boil water before drinking.
A primary school was built in 2015 by the Eco Camp, mainly funded by the Camp and its friends. 159 children are attending the Happy Bricks Primary School at the moment. It is the only school until Bwawani.
Idea
We want to give the people the power to change their economical situation.
This will improve both the social and environemental state in Lukwambe on the long term.
Because other project ideas, that came from outside, have failed to be implemented. The main cause for this, was the lacking cooperation and adoption of methods by the villagers. Therefore, we came up with the idea to start with the local people. To do, what they want to do.
After one long meeting at the camp with 14 people, they decided to keep poultry for meat production to sell in Bwawani. It is a small town 17km from Lukwambe. For now, they get their chicken from Morogoro, which is more than 50km away. Therefore the demand for local chicken meat is high. As a new road is build right now, soon, the transport to Bwawani will take no more than 15 minutes.
We want to support the projects of the people of Lukwambe, which would not be possible without financial support from outside. This is the reason for our crowdfunding.
Finances
We went through the idea, discussed its ability to generate income, pay back the credit, as well as its risks and possibility to be realized and.
The loan is first given in the form of ressources: medicine, vaccines, wire mesh,… to ensure the proper use of the money. The project is then observed by us, a chairperson, vice chairperson and a secretary of the project who come from Lukwambe.
We calculated with our vetenerian and experienced poultry keepers, how much money is needed and how much profit will be made. In the end, we would need 1650 EUR or about 4 125 000 TSH to give 15 microcredits.
We also expect to get fund from the DTP (German Tanzanian Partnership) and ACC (Action for Community Care), which are organizing Theo`s voluntary year. It is possible to get 600EUR for a small scale project, that is in their view sustainable and protects the environement. Therefore, there are 1050EUR left to raise.
The interest rate of the microcredits is 8%. It assures that more people can receive micro credits, even for different business ideas.
How is the loan paid back?
We want an individually discussed amount of money to be paid every third month. This amount will be susbstracted, when the chicken are sold in Bwawani, even before it reaches the poultry keepers. That`s why, the amount will always be paid, if chicken are sold.
In the case someone is not able to pay back his loan, the chairperson will call in a group meeting. The groups individually decides how to proceed and which measures to take. Group members are willing to borrow money, that is to be paid back later. In certain cases, members can be expelled from the group.
At the Eco Camp, we have an educated vetenerian and an experienced farmer, who can provide free help in both agricultural and livestock related problems. The people decided to keep the poultry at one place, together. Therefore, we can concentrate ourselves on one location.
With a big number of people, it is possible to share the costs for the transport and use of animal medication, fertilizers or tools. Therefore, we want to start the project with 15 people.
We and the people from Lukwambe are convinced by our project. If you support their initiatives, they are directly involved and fully committed in them. Not only for now, but even for years to come.
