Keep the Soup On for North Lawndale
Donation protected
One year ago, we set a date to hire Black and brown chefs, provide hot meals to community members, and create a space for connectedness.
Since then, we served 10,000 meals over 50 Monday afternoons with financial and in-kind support from NLCCC, School of the Art Institute, Fight2Feed, Chi Help Initiative, and the Trust for Public Land. Urban Growers Collective's 'Fresh Moves' bus provides $10 of free produce to every person. We huddled in the winter, baked in the summer, laughed and danced, and have no plans of stopping now.
After we spent the funds previously provided to pay 14 Black and brown chefs to provide 525 gallons of soup, we secured food donations and leaned harder on volunteers. We are now running out of food sources and need your help.
We are seeking donations for ingredients and containers to support our weekly celebration of abundance and community. $200 will purchase the protein for one distribution. $100 would pay one chef from North Lawndale to make the meal. $50 will cover packaging to give out the meal.
Please contribute to our effort to feed and care for the North Lawndale community, with the North Lawndale community.
Contributions will be received by Stone Temple Baptist Church and allocated as stated above.
Thank you for helping to sustain our community.

Our request last year:
During COVID, we have distributed 300 boxes each week from Urban Growers Collective and Gourmet Gorilla to distribute to residences in the North Lawndale community. They are no longer able to provide us enough boxes to meet the needs of the community, which is why we need your help.
Please help families in North Lawndale by supporting the NLCCC GROWSS committee and Stone Temple 'Soup for the Soul' distribution.
We will provide 200 - 16oz portions of hot soup each Monday from 2-4pm at Stone Temple Church through March 31, 2021.
Each week's provision costs $700. All donations will used to hire a local minority chef, purchase ingredients from a local food justice organization, and buy containers. Volunteers will distribute soup.
Thank you for being a partner in sharing 'Soup for the Soul' for the North Lawndale community.
