The University of Florida surf team has been on top this year. We've had TWO first-place finishes in men's short boarding by team captain Paul Campbell, a 1st in longboarding by Cory Gann, and a 1st in woman's short boarding by Kat Bakinowski and Braidyn Cunningham.
Not to mention in December, for the first time in YEARS...
UF SURF WON FIRST TEAM OVERALL!
(The walk up the beach after a particularly fun session)
If you're not familiar with the world of collegiate surfing, this is like Vanderbilt beating Bama. (It's not easy to be good at surfing when you go to a top 5 university an hour and a half from the coast.)
This year, we have qualified to compete nationally in California this June. The UF Surf Team has not done this since 2019
It's been a challenging few years for us, covid took a blow on us and we were not able to compete during the 2020 season. Additionally, from 2021 until now we have been operating without any funding from the university. If you know RecSports, you know.
Despite all of this, our club is thriving and stronger than ever. However, we need your help. NSSA regionals and nationals will cost a total of $1225. These costs, along with sending our team of 11 out west will add up to around $11200. ($2500 for lodging, $4000 for flights, $3000 for food, and $500 for transportation.)
We expect to raise about $6000 ourselves through events like learn to surf, parties, shirt sales, and personal fundraisers (we even busted out the quesadilla grill at midtown last week.)
We humbly request your support in getting our team out west. Any amount would be greatly appreciated. To show our gratitude, every donor will receive a handwritten thank you, a photo of the team and some club stickers.
Thank you for taking the time to consider our request.
Sincerely,
The 2023 UF Surf Team
