I took Nala to the vet on February 10th due to decreasing appetite, weakness, and tremors. However, the vet could not label a disease process because all labs and studies were normal.
A few days later, I was having to force baby food and water into her by using a syringe. I walked her out to the front lawn in attempt to take her to the emergency room and she collapsed on her hind legs. Therefore, I carried my 60 pound dog into my truck.
In the ER, repeat diagnostic testing and lab work was done. February 16th, my dog was diagnosed with Addison’s disease. This disease is known as “The Great Pretender”. Symptoms do not present until 90% of the adrenal glands are destroyed.
Adrenal glands are responsible for our cardiac function, blood pressure, hydration status, and hormone regulation. Without proper medication management, a dog can go into a crisis state as the adrenal glands do not function naturally in dogs with Addison’s.
I come to you asking for help. The cost of getting Nala stabilized in the ER was enormous. The cost of continued treatment is also not cheap. She will need monthly injections and bloodwork for the rest of her life to ensure she can live happy and healthy.
Typically, I am not one to ask for assistance and I struggled to post this. All of this is a bit overwhelming. Any help is appreciated to recover some of my losses from her emergency room visit. It would mean the world to me and would help immensely with the cost of her treatment. Thank you.
