Nawal's trip to Palestine
Donation protected
Hello and thank you for stopping by my GoFundMe page! I am thrilled to share with you that I will be travelling to Palestine and attending the Interfaith Peace-Builders Delegation: “Incarceration, Detention, and Political Prisoners” on May 21 - June 3, 2016.
This delegation is co-sponsored by the American Friends Service Committee where I have been a Fellow since May, 2014. If you are aware of the work I do as an Israel-Palestine Program Fellow at AFSC, then you know that this delegation was perhaps made for me. For those of you who are not privy to the work I do please take the time to read below! Thank you for taking the time to contribute to this project.
About the Campaign:
I am currently on my second year of my Fellowship and the majority of my work is centered around the No Way to Treat a Child Campaign, which is committed to securing a just and viable future for Palestinian children living in the Occupied Palestinian Territory, and envisions a world where all children attain rights in accordance with the UN Convention on the Rights of the child and other international standards.

About Detaining Dreams:
During my Fellowship Amr Kawji and have been afforded the opportunity to produce the film Detaining Dreams, which is sponsored by American Friends Service Committee, Defense for Children International Palestine, and the No Way to Treat a Child campaign. Our film Detaining Dreams is not simply part of just another campaign, it is not just another film, and these are not just four boys. They are Abed, Ameer, Mohammed S, and Mohammed A.; 4 boys who were 15 and 16 years old when they were ripped from the arms of their families’ and arrested as children. Their stories are heart wrenching, but must be heard. There are countless more stories throughout Palestinian territories of children just like them that have yet to be shared. It is our duty to speak up for those whose voices cannot be heard, for humanity in all corners of the globe. We have an obligation. It is my hope through this delegation that I can continue the work Amr and I began, hearing these children’s stories and fighting for their rights.

About the Trip
This delegation will explore Palestinian and Israeli efforts to achieve peace with justice. Similarly to the campaign I’ve spent my time at AFSC working on, this specific delegation will include meetings that delve deeper into the issues of detention and incarceration, the Israeli military court system, and political prisoners - including meetings with organizations like Addameer, Defense for Children International Palestine, and New Profile. The delegation will also feature meetings with Palestinian and Israeli leaders of civil society groups, grassroots organizers, religious leaders and more.
Why Should I Go?
In order to be an effective and powerful advocate for the rights of Palestinian children in military detention, I must gain the experience as well as develop the skills required to counteract the brutality of the Israeli Military System. To do so, I believe education is imperative. Real time exposure to what is occurring on the ground each day will not only strengthen my understanding of a topic I so deeply have invested my soul and efforts in, but will help me advocate for Abed, Ameer, Mohammed S, Mohammed A., and others like them in ways I would never be able to without understanding their experiences in military detention.
I am blessed to have been afforded the opportunity to join this delegation. Your contributions and support would mean so much to me, and would give me the opportunity to expand my knowledge of Palestine and growth, not only as a humanitarian, but as an individual.
