Loyalty is a God Given Gift, found in few, but My Mum had it literally in truckloads!

My Mum’s name was Avril O’Callaghan, and she kept that name up until 1959, when at the tender age of 23, mum married the one and only true love of her life _ an equally beautiful warm hearted man from Cork, the dashingly handsome Ronnie Smith. 

Mum worshiped the ground Dad walked upon, she absolutely adored him, and in her Dad found his ‘Everything!’

Dad was a merchant prince of Cork, and everyone I could safely say just loved Dad!

Was he a bit of a rogue? Of course he was, but you would need to come from Cork to fully understand that expression!

I remember so many people telling me how much fun Dad was, as he just loved people, but in spite of all the bravado, Ronnie Smith only had eyes for his one true Love Avril or Av as he affectionately called her.

Dad was 7 years older than Mum, but that was of no consequence as his boyish charm always melted mum’s Huge Heart ❤️,  but I know she knew that she also melted his, but us boys want to be masculine, and can’t have the girls thinking we need love as much as them!

It was and still is an absolute privilege to have been their first born, and no doubt my amazing 4 siblings feel the same way as I do.

They taught us that Love always wins, and no matter how bad things seem, all will be well.

I’d like to take the last line of a very famous Irish ballad, and change it to “There I’ll rest until my darling AV I’ll Greet!

The pain is over now Mum and Dad, and we’ll make you proud as I promised Bill April 2024
