Help w. Jaw and TMJ Surgery After Malpractice

Donation protected
Hi, for those of you who don’t know me, my name is Nikki and I never thought I’d make a page like this… I’m actually insanely uncomfortable in doing so but I have been urged by my closest friends to do this, so here it goes:

Almost 3 years ago, I got double jaw surgery which was meant to fix a myriad of problems I had been dealing with for over a decade. What was supposed to be a life changing (for the better) surgery, turned into a life-altering downward spiral that is too traumatic for me to even bear all. To only name the top few problems:
  • I was left with permanent nerve damage/paralysis in my chin, lips, and teeth
  • The double jaw surgery I received worsened my root condition which I’ve learned after the fact is called ICR (Idiopathic Condylar Resorption).
  • My jaw painfully dislocates every time I chew
  • My lips cannot close which causes food to fall out, embarrassing drooling, and much more issues.
  • While talking or eating, it feels like bungee cords are ripping my mouth and face open
  • I have an open and crooked bite causing me to physically be unable to chew.
I trusted this surgeon’s expertise to diagnose my condition and fix my bite and the opposite happened.

After an excruciating journey these last couple years, I found the strength and clarity to seek out other options. I was led to one of the top surgeons in the world for complex jaw reconstructive surgeries and now, finally, have an intense life changing (for the better) surgery scheduled for August 1st in Dallas, Texas! I am beyond petrified due to what I’ve already gone through but have the highest trust in my new surgeon — plus, this is my only hope at getting any sort of quality of life back.

I am seeking your help in being able to afford this surgery as every day that goes by without the surgery, the worse my pain, condition, and likelihood of attempting to fix my nerves gets. I cannot eat normal food. These last few months, I have been on a soft/no chew food diet which has led to more worsening issues mentally and physically.

I really thought I was in the home stretch by finally getting this surgery planned/scheduled and getting my insurance prior authorization approved. Sadly, because this surgeon is out of network, I still need to FRONT the surgeon’s fees, which total to $101,190.

Because I am not the type of person to ever ask anyone for anything, I had planned on taking out inordinate loans in the hopes of being reimbursed some percentage back from my insurance once the claim goes through. However, a few months ago, I was sharing my plan with my parent who told me absolutely not to taking out loans and that they would help me get the funds to front for the surgery and I’d repay them over time. Now, 1 week away from my long-awaited surgery and 3 business days away from my payment deadline, they pulled out and I am 100% on my own to scrap together this money last minute. Trust me, I am doing literally everything possible to get this money together so I can get this surgery. But, please, please, any amount helps so I can not go bankrupt trying to repay whatever loans I can get at this point.

I have zero support from my family, I am in so much pain emotionally and physically because of everything that has happened, and I really need to get this surgery.

If you’ve read this far, thank you so much. Even if you cannot donate, please share to someone who may be able to. Thank you for your kindness.

Here is the cost breakdown which totals to $101,190:
