Why Ask for Help? Because a Closed Mouth Doesn’t Get Fed (Literally)
Hey there! I'm Rhonda, the proud owner of Oneshop Marketplace and Eats.
Now, I’m not usually one to ask for help, but let’s be real—a closed mouth doesn’t get fed, and in this case, neither do our wonderful customers!
As a small food maker, I’ve faced the challenges of getting products to the masses. We small makers often find ourselves limited to local and seasonal farmers markets, braving extreme heat, rain, or bone-chilling cold. I’ve been there, selling Perfectly Cordial at farmers markets and pop-ups, feeling like a soggy or frozen popsicle depending on the day.
These challenges inspired me to create Oneshop—a farmers market experience within four cozy walls. It’s a haven for small makers to sell their products at affordable costs, without the weather drama.
Specializing in wholesome food, vegan, and gluten-free options, OneShop has become a Nashville gem. Our diverse staff includes students from Tennessee State University, artists from the LGBTQIA community, and budding entrepreneurs from Metro Public Schools. Together, we’re rocking it! With 30 small makers in our market, 30% of them makers of color, 65% female makers, and 40% offering vegan, vegetarian, or gluten-free products, we’re a force to be reckoned with.
OneShop has grown into a social enterprise I never planned on starting. Now, we’re ready to tackle the next big mission—renovating the back of the store into a fully functioning deli and kitchen. This will allow us to offer more grab-and-go items and provide a pop-up space for early-stage chefs and restaurateurs to develop their culinary dreams and share their delicious creations.
I used the proceeds from Perfectly Cordial to fund the early stages of Oneshop, but for this kitchen project, I need a little help from my community.
As a Registered Nurse by trade, I know a thing or two about healing people, but opening a kitchen from scratch? That’s a whole new ball game! (Though it might be as complicated as open-heart surgery—kidding, but also, real talk.)
Here’s what we need funds for:
- Appliances (because we can’t cook with fairy dust)
- Commercial Refrigerator and Freezer
- Flooring (we tried to paint the plywood and the health department said, NOT TODAY)
- Plumbing (a three-compartment sink is a must!)
- Electrical (because candlelight cooking is sooo medieval)
- POS system (to keep things moving smoothly)
- Packaging (to make our food look as good as it tastes)
- Menu board (to show off our tasty offerings)
And a whole bunch of other things. Running a business is hard. Running two while supporting your community is even harder. But this mission is bigger than me, and I’m all in.
Any amount helps. I appreciate every bit of support. Thank you!
