In May 2015 a tornado touched down in the Outlaw hometown of Bridgeport Texas and destroyed the family home of over 30 years. Patty, her husband Leon, and their granddaughter Truly were all in the home at the time of the storm but luckily escaped without injury.
In the midst of dealing with the chaos of the tornado the family was also battling Leon’s lung cancer diagnosis that was received earlier in the year. In June of 2015 Leon was scheduled for a routine exploratory procedure that was meant to survey the extent of the cancer, however there was a complication and Leon passed away on June 16th 2015.
Patty Outlaw is a hardworking woman who put herself through nursing school later in her life while raising her three sons. In 2008, after a battle with epilepsy, her oldest son Eddie passed away. She has been very active in carrying for her two grandchildren and has recently had to assume the financial responsibility for their care after her middle son Zachary lost his job in the oil fields due to the economic downturn.
Patty has now been left with the burden of rebuilding her home while also dealing with the financial ramifications of losing her husband’s income. In addition to her regular expenses, she now also has to pay for temporary housing as the rebuilding of her home has carried on over the past 10 months. The insurance money that was received for the damaged property has allowed her to complete the exterior of the home, but she is currently unable to complete the extensive work required inside including the electrical, drywall, insulation, and fixtures.
