Public Painting Project Mural For Owen Park - 'RIVERS'
Donation protected
ART FOR OUR COMMUNITY, CREATED BY OUR COMMUNITY!
We're almost finished! Please stop when you see us painting this week. We're involving ALL of our community in painting!
The ongoing creation of new public artworks is crucial for our community’s growth and identity. The Public Painting Project needs your help to support the creation of new public murals in downtown Eau Claire.
This July, the City of Eau Claire approved the painting of 'Rivers' on the 4 walls of the Owen Park restroom building, incorporating the words of beloved local author, John Hildebrand. The theme is Rivers, using the style of Aboriginal art called 'dot painting', with a nod to our Australian Sister City, Lismore. We're excited to involve community members in the painting of this exciting mural. The City is unable to fund this project, so we're reaching out to the community for financial support, too!
To date, we've had at least 75 'helpers' - community, park-goers, bikers, walkers and anyone interested help us with the mural by helping to paint our dots. All dots together mean GATHERING. Our river theme is coming together! Join us!
HOW YOUR CONTRIBUTION WILL BE USED:
While approved, the City has no budget for financial support of this project. Your donation will cover costs for materials, permits and insurance, as well as artist fees. PPP is committed to establishing a fair compensation rate for the artists who help to create our city’s beautiful murals.
Your support will essentially contribute to our public arts scene while fueling our creative economy and bringing beauty to our community. We believe art is the heart and soul of a community!
THE MURALS:
We conduct artist workshops, teaching artists the facets of mural painting, and culminate with local murals, including 'Flourish' on the Lake St. Family Promise building and 'Revelry', located at 1st Ave. storage units, just off the Phoenix Park bridge.
