Palmer's Road to Recovery
Donation protected
Brothers Kayden and Kyson Palmer have been away from home for over 6 weeks, spending the summer at Motocross Compound intensely training for the recent Loretta Lynn's National Amateur event. Their parents, Juston and Misty Palmer as well as close friend, Kanyon VanOtten, spent the last week in Tennessee with the boys helping support their passion. Both boys raced exceptionally, with Kyson taking 2nd overall in his class, an outstanding accomplishment.
Nine hours into their return journey home they ran into a severe thunder storm. Their truck and trailer hydroplaned into an embankment off interstate 70 in Topeka, Kansas. All 5 passengers were injured- Kayden and Kyson having to be airlifted, made their way to one hospital. Juston was rushed by ambulance to a different hospital and Misty and Kanyon were sent to yet a different hospital. Not til hours later were Juston, Misty and Kanyon reunited with the brothers.
Kayden had initial bleeding on his brain and was put into an induced coma. He has opened his eyes 2-3 times and has had some progress with simple responses to his nurses. Per updates from the hospital this morning we are hoping he is able to have his chest tube removed today and waiting on results of the CT scan.
Kyson’s spleen had some bleeding- it is currently functional; however, he will undergo surgery for a broken jaw this afternoon.
Juston is currently in extreme pain with a dislocated shoulder and cracked vertebrae. Last night they were finally able to get his shoulder back into the socket. He is scheduled for surgery to repair his back. Juston’s injuries will keep him out of work for at least 3 months.
Misty was released from the hospital yesterday with cuts and stitches as well as Kanyon who sustained a broken arm. Misty's sisters and father and Kanyon's family arrived late yesterday and are with them now at the hospital.
Two of their close friends met them at the hospital in Kansas, to offer support and to look through the wreckage for anything salvageable. The Palmers race trailer, which contained multiple motorcycles, and all their equipment is a total loss. The Palmers close friends were able; however, to locate and return Kyson's awards and trophies.
There are many people who know and love this amazing family and have been asking how to help. Standing by at home, being helpless is frustrating. This GoFundMe account has been set up to offer support from our sidelines, while they recover. It is not yet clear how or when they will return home, but it is true that they will face an extreme financial burden.
Misty and Juston run their own landscaping company- both laboring extensively in their field of work. Juston will be out of work for a few months and Misty will need to care for all 3 of her men. This will be a long road to recovery, but we pray that they will be supported.
Cole and Elizabeth Townsend have set up this GoFundMe account, after being given permission from family. We are close friends of the Palmers and traveled to Tennessee with them. We live within 2 miles of each other, and -just like all who know them- want to do what ever we can to help.
