Partner With Me In This Project Of Hope
Some years back, I watched as a gang member mouthed words out loud seemingly to himself. Over and Over again he whispered, "Two more years. Two more years." He was 19 years old. He'd already been severely wounded by automatic gun fire in two separate incidents. He had a child; a daughter. What did he mean by two more years? Later I found he was praying for the opportunity to be present in his infant daughter's life for two years before his life would be extinguished in a hail of gun smoke. Sometimes I think about him. I wonder if he made it.
As a minister of the inner city, I have ministered dozens of young people like that man. I have helped people in the throes of decades of drug addiction find hope. I have prayed with mothers who have lost their children to urban violence. Just the other day someone stopped me on the street and reminded me of the day that I talked him out doing retaliating against a neighbor who had stolen something from him. He was laughing as he recounted that moment. However, he wasn't laughing the day that I randomly came across him in a parking lot and talked him out of giving business to the local funeral parlor. I've helped women who were trapped in human trafficking and domestic violence. I have been the preacher invited to minister in places that no other minister has set foot. I've given my life to this. Ask anyone who knows me.
One of the ways that I reach people is through books. Recently, I finished a worked called, "When The Struggle Is Real: O.G. Rev's Hip-Hop Prayers And Meditations." It is a book of prayers written for people in street level situations. People serving time in jail or caught up in the streets will relate to everything in this book. All of the prayers rhyme. There are many prayer books in print but I have never seen one that is this relevant to the people in America's forgotten places. They have titles like, “Prayer For An Incarcerated Loved One,” “The Gangsta’s Prayer,” “Prayer To Withstand Temptation,” “Prayer For The Sexually Abused,” “Heal My Nightmares Prayer,” and “Backslider’s Prayer” to name a few.
My plan is to put this book into the hands of people in the most desperate of circumstances. My belief is that this book will also bless people immersed in hip-hop culture who are searching for a spiritual connection.
This new adventure is ready to begin. The only thing needed is the funding that will put it into action. My plan is to get 700 copies of "When The Struggle Is Real" into print. I also want to print copies of my book, "Straight Outta East Oakland," "Straight Outta East Oakland 2: Trapped On The Track" and "Street Cred: A Hood Minister’s Guide To Urban Ministry. " I’d also like to hire a pay videographer to film a series of my short, uplifting and inspirational sermons for the internet.
I am estimating the cost of this project to be about $4,000. Can I count on you to help me take the message of hope to places it may have never reached before? Will you partner with me in this journey? Together and by God’s grace, we will save lives.
Upon release, autographed copies will be sent to friends who donate $100.00 or more.
We are already on the way. Stay tuned in the coming weeks as reports of my newest book's impact come in. Together and with God's help, we will bring hope to those who starve for it.
