Patrick Dreams of Teaching

My name is Patrick, and I’m asking for help to secure a place to live.
I am a Black, queer postgraduate English student at the State University of New York at New Paltz, and I lost my job at the university library when the pandemic began.
I currently live in a sublet in Brooklyn that ends on October 1st. I have no family to help me or let me stay with them, and my unemployment has run out. I have not yet found a job, so I have no income. On October 1st, I will be homeless. The money raised here will cover my security deposit, moving costs, and the first few months of rent, as well as a few months of medication and therapy for me. I am hopeful that with the funds raised and my housing taken care of for a few months, I will be able to find a job and with it, some stability.
In a world where #BlackLivesMatter is not a given, we need more Black teachers, especially queer Black men, to teach and inspire our next generation of thinkers and policymakers. This is my dream - I dream of being a creative writing professor, and inspiring my students to embrace the creator inside each of them. I want to create an environment and relationship with my students that lets them express themselves freely, without judgement, the same way I find nonjudgmental comfort in creativity. I long to be in the classroom in this way, but first, I need to have a place to live. Our system has beaten me down, but it has not defeated me. I will find a way to make a difference in the lives of young students and be the role model they badly need, but I need your help to ensure my survival.
Any amount you can donate, large or small, means the world to me. If you can’t donate, please, share this GoFundMe. I have faith that our community, a community of teachers, writers, students, and changemakers, can help me fight for my future.
