Pattie Malloy's JOurneY UPENN Brain Tumor Research
Donation protected
In a seven-year span, my mother, Pattie Malloy, endured three very long and very painful brain stem surgeries, along with countless hours of therapy to function again as the woman so many people loved and respected.
Our family called it a joyously sad experience because every glorious moment of good news was followed by a heartbreaking setback. However, Pattie always rebounded faster than her family and friends because she was determined to find the JOY in every part of this very challenging JOurneY.
But in the end, “The Beast” as we called her tumor, ravaged my mother’s mind and body, and she passed away after a hard-fought battle.
I am haunted by the thought of other patients and families going through this same nightmare right now, as well as for those who will receive this dire diagnosis in the near future.
Pattie Donahue Malloy was a kind and caring person, and I know she will be humbled by the generous spirit of others to donate and make a gratefully accepted contribution in her memory.

Dr. Sean Grady and all of the dedicated people at Penn Medicine, poured their great skill and spirit into extending the quantity and quality of Pattie’s life; and for that our family will be forever grateful. With your help, we can support ongoing research to develop improved brain tumor treatments.
My father captured the last time I held and hugged my mother. In that moment, she told me, "God wants me home...I am scared and I don't want to leave, but I may need to...You’re strong, and you'll be okay."
At times, I don't feel strong, and I don’t feel okay. But she sees so many of us struggling to cope with her absence, and she is helping to shape our good intentions into productive action.
Early in their marriage, my mother took great care of my father as he recovered from his own 16-hour brain stem surgery. And 38 years later, he demonstrated a commitment to his wife of 41 years that I pray we would all be Blessed to receive and strong enough to give to the people we love.
We will continue with my mom's optimistic mindset of always seeking the "JOY” in her JOurneY, and with your assistance, we will make a meaningful contribution to funding brain tumor research in her memory. Thank YOU!
