Pedicule Tram Flap Hernia Repair
Donation protected
Hello, Family, friends and Community
My name is Tori, JoAnn's Friend. I've assisted JoAnn in writing her Go Fund Me to ask for your consideration and assistance. JoAnn retains all control and receives your donations directly for her Go Fund Me.
I've been friends with JoAnn for several years. Shes asking for your assistance to have a desperately needed hernia repair that occurred as a result of breast reconstruction using her abdomen. JoAnn is a Kind, Gentle, Kindred soul that thinks of others before herself. She desires to be healthy again so she can enjoy life and activities with her family and friends, return to work and contribute to her community as she enjoyed in the Past. She has a passion for life. JoAnn wants to be a participant, not a bystander. She desires to be able to care for herself and be independent. She's a loving Mom of boys. A Daughter, Sister, Aunt and Wonderful Friend to so many. Her Smile and laugh are contagious despite her circumstances. She knows how serious her condition has become and continues to hold onto HOPE.
JoAnn's faced many hardships from the type of breast reconstruction she was told would restore her breast after mastectomy. After diagnosed with breast cancer, JoAnn had a bilateral mastectomy. She desired to have her breasts reconstructed to merely replace what was taken. Desiring to avoid implants, her Plastic surgeon suggested using her own body to replace her breast by using her own body to replace her breast by using the Bilateral Pedicle TRAM Flap. " That's a Mouthful" The Pedicle TRAM Flap removes the lower abdomen skin, Fat and both rectus (aka: 6 pack muscles) muscles to recreate breast. Abdominal fat and skin are moved to the chest to rebuild each breast. Her muscles with blood vessels left attached, were used to give the transferred fat a blood supply for the fat to survive. Its difficult to explain the entire procedure but , its available online to review .
Given the positive information on this type of reconstruction from her plastic surgeon, JoAnn moved forward. Unfortunately, JoAnn wasn't informed the Pedicale TRAM Flap has a high risk of abdominal hernias from taking the Tummy muscles. Not typical hernias but, complicated hernias that affect the entire abdomen.
When JoAnn was diagnosed, her focus was removing the cancer. After her mastectomy, She moved forward with Breast reconstruction. JoAnn trusted her Plastic Surgeon, Believing he has her best interest at heart and really cared for her well being. Sadly her reconstruction didn't turn out the way she hoped. Her plastic surgeon never discussed the high hernia risk or she wouldn't have had this reconstruction. He discharged her from his care and told her nothing could be done.
JoAnn has been battling severe, recurring hernias that happened because of reconstruction in 2015. JoAnn had three hernia repairs in her home state of Texas. Always hopeful each repair would fix her abdomen. Unfortunately, each repair damaged her abdomen further. She's developed numerous serious infection requiring hospitalization, a picc line with antibiotics, open abdominal wounds/wound care and failing skin graft to abdomen to cover an open wound from her last repair. No surgeons in Texas have given her further HOPE at repair now. Shes is beyond "their" help. She cannot live with these Hernias. They need to be repaired Soon. She's exhausted all her finances from all the repairs and Complication.
This is why she set up this Go Fund Me. There are two skilled surgeons at repairing her type of hernias. But these surgeons are located In LI, NY. JoAnn needs help with the surgery costs. She's secured air travel with Angel Flight and accommodations.
After her last repair, JoAnn never lost HOPE with assistance from family and friends, she flew to NY to consult with these surgeons afraid she was beyond help, she was overjoyed when they told her they could repair her abdomen, her internal organs are severely compromised from 3 attempts at hernia repair in Texas . She was told if not repaired, rupture ofr her abdomen could happen any time, threatening her life.
These 2 Surgeons work in unison. Specialists in repairing the most severe hernias caused by the TRAM flap breast reconstruction. Myself and Numerous women have had hernia repairs by these surgeons.
She never envisioned this reconstruction would jeopardize her health and life. JoAnn's been through more at her again then most of us will ever experience in a lifetime . But she's done it with courage, Strength and resilience. Throughout her journey, even when anxious and depressed, she's been inspired by her children, family and friends, to keep fighting . She holds on to her HOPE.
When asking up a Fundraiser, JoAnn feels bad about asking other for donations. Shes used to given , not receiving I'm here to ask for JoAnn. If you can find it in your heart to donate , this would give JoAnn a healthy, future life, the ability to care for herself again, give back to her community, work and enjoy life itself.
Please know each donation makes a difference. your donation brings her closer to having this surgery. No donation is too small $5 or more if your able .
Your donation and /sharing her Fundraiser are greatly appreciated .
