Penny's Recovery Fund
Donation protected
TLDR:
Penny has B-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia. We are taking donations to help us with medical bills and living expenses during this time.
???What Happened???
On March 19th Penny was taken to the ER after being sick for a week, usually sickness doesn’t effect her too much but we knew something was wrong this time. Regardless of what the advice nurses said on the phone, she was taken in and found that she was really struggling in more ways than we had imagined. Her blood platelets were extremely low as well as her white blood count. She moved quickly up the Ventilator hierarchy and was stabilized on the Oscillator Ventilator. We were also informed then that there were leukemia cells found in her blood and that she might have leukemia. She was diagnosed with having two viruses in her body: Rhino Virus and the human metapneumovirus which caused pneumonia. Both viruses she would have been fine with if she had a stronger immune system to battle. She spent about two weeks on the Oscillator vent and began moving down the tier system of vents. She spent about 4/5 days on the conventional ventilator and is now on the lowest tier of vents and soon will be breathing on her own again. During this time we did several more blood tests and bone marrow biopsies and on April 4th we received news that she had B-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia. One of the most common types of leukemia.
So What now????
Penny will be staying in the hospital until she regains her strength. The day she got the diagnosis they began treatment for the Leukemia. This process is a 2.5 year long process to defeat the cancer, and have it remain in remission. The first 8 months are the hardest and after that it tappers off. My sister and brother in law (Christina and Matt) have essentially been living in the hospital since March 19th and will remain there until the process is over.
???What’s Next???
Currently penny is just regaining strength after being in a medically enduced coma for 2.5 weeks. She will be allowed to leave and go home and continue chemo for the next 2.5 years.
A Word from Tio
As an uncle, I want the best for all of my siblings' children whether thru marriage or not, being an uncle has changed my life. Penelope was a gift into my life when I was at my lowest struggling with depression and anxiety, she filled my heart up with joy and hope for the future. She’s always been a strong little lady, very sure of who she is and what she wants and has always been very inspiring to see her growing in an environment that nurtured her to grow into who she wanted to be without dimming her shine. In my eyes she’s a star who shines bright and while this situation is something I wouldn’t wish anyone to experience I know that we will get through this.
Much love & light,
