Please help us pay for speech & language therapy

Hi my name is Lindsay and I am fund raising to help pay for desperately needed speech & language therapy for my wonderful husband Wayne.

He suffered a catastrophic haemorrhagic stroke on the 28th of July 2023. He beat the odds as they only gave him a 20% chance of survival but he has been left with a huge communication deficit.

There is a national shortage of speech and language therapists and Wayne will be discharged home finally on the 8th of March from hospital where he has remained an inpatient since this stroke tried to take his life.

Wayne’s has been left with many life changing deficits but not being able to communicate is so devastating for us all, especially him. He is so upset and frustrated that he can’t talk properly that he has almost become mute.

Wayne before his stroke was one of the funniest people you could hope to meet, a caring and thoughtful soul who would do anything for you in a heartbeat. He loved with all of his heart and was a true gentleman putting his family first always.

He has always worked hard and never claimed a penny in benefits ever.

Since his stroke he has received only statutory sick pay. I am an A&E Nurse and I have been working so hard to try and keep our home, support Wayne and our 3 girls and juggle all of the bills having lost over £2000 per month because Wayne is no longer able to work and support his family. I can’t work any more hours to support funding this much needed therapy on top of all our other monthly living costs.

There is a huge waiting list for therapy in the community and he is not guaranteed to receive a therapist who specialises in stroke rehab, if he is provided with a community based speech therapist at all.

We have found an amazing therapist who is a stroke specific but sadly only works privately so we are appealing to try and raise desperately needed funds to help

pay for Wayne to be given a fighting chance of finding his voice again.
