Our Family's Desperate Cry for Help: Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI), Betrayal & Hope

January 16, 2023 — will forever be etched in my memory. My husband's life changed in an instant when a heavy steel plate fell, striking and piercing his head, causing a traumatic brain injury (TBI) at the Microsoft Data Center Facility in Boydton, Virginia.

A year after the accident, my husband continues to suffer from Persistent Post-Concussive Symptoms, including memory lapses, concentration difficulties, chronic headaches, dizziness, vision problems, ringing in the ears, sensitivity to light and sound, severe neck pain, and stiffness. He also experiences chronic nausea, irritability, increased anxiety, general weakness, sleeping difficulties, temperature regulation issues, tremors, incontinence, gastrointestinal issues, difficulty swallowing solid foods, and an irregular heart rate.

These symptoms fall under Dysautonomia / Autonomic Dysfunction / Vagal Dysregulation / Vagus Nerve Issues — a known effect of concussions and traumatic brain injuries, severely impacting his quality of life and ability to provide for his family. Additionally, my daughter had to be in therapy, suffering from eating difficulties due to her father's inability to swallow solid foods.

Watching our young children, aged 1 and 3, see their daddy taken away by ambulances, tears in their eyes, breaks my heart. As his sole, full-time caretaker, I am unable to work, and our children need attention and supervision. My husband's debilitating health issues make it impossible for him to care for them.

We face financial ruin:

My husband’s employer terminated him without offering light duty or support.
Workers' compensation wrongfully cut off his weekly income since September 2023.
They never paid his hospital bills, depleting our savings.
