Help save Poppy's life

Feline Infectious Peritonitis or FIP is a viral disease of cats caused by certain strains of a virus called the feline coronavirus. Popp was diagnosed with FIP effusive, the "wet" version of FIP. Cats infected with FIP usually develop loss of appetite, weight loss, depression, and fever. Fluid fills the chest, and makes it difficult for that cat to breathe. This disease is often considered a death sentence, and up until a few years ago that was true. Today we're lucky enough that there is treatment available for FIP.

Poppy was a very skittish cat when I adopted her with her sister. She didn't like people, and she hid however she could. Yet when I saw that sweet girl in that cage I told her and her and I were going to become best friends. The staff looked at me as if I was crazy.

A few months later and Poppy is following me wherever I go, sitting on my lap or shoulders while I'm working, and cuddling with me on the couch.

Then I noticed that Poppy wasn't eating. She wasn't playing. She wasn't following me around. She could barely breathe, and she could barely stay awake. I rushed her to the vet and that was when we learned that fluid had filled in her chest, which meant something terrible was going on. On Wednesday 11/08/2023 it was confirmed: Poppy has FIP.

The treatment for FIP lasts roughly 84 days, and then there are 84 days of observation.

Medication that she must take every day is about $200 every 2 weeks.

The blood tests could be anywhere between $200 - $300 every 4 weeks.

The vet visits to drain the fluid could range between another $200 - $300 per visit.

Poppy is just 5 months old, and she has had so much growth these past few months from a skittish cat to a snuggle bug. But without this treatment, Poppy will die.
