Pray for Tommie

Written by my aunt Deanna:

This is Tommie.  She is the fifth of seven siblings in our family.  She is a wonderful mother to two wonderful women.  One of them has given her, her first grandchild, Owen. (Pictured with Tommie) She is a wonderful grandmother.  She has always supported her two girls.  She loves her son-in-laws.  And Owen is the sweet, gentle, loving, innocent, funny one that keeps them all on their toes and a smile on her face.  All her sacrifices, all her love for others, all of her difficulties in life, made her loving family possible.

She is a pastoral psychotherapist by profession.  She devotes all her time giving to others.  She has always had a beautiful voice and sang in College, Church, and in the car on long trips. She loves cobalt blue, birds, gardening and her family. She is one of us. Some may say, she is the best of us.

Some of those sacrifices of giving to others has left her with a satisfying full time job but no medical insurance benefits. It was less expensive to pay the "fine" than to have health insurance. And she's always been the healthy one. Very rarely sick. Never a problem. Eats healthy, lives cleanly, exercises...

We were both so sure, it was "just another cyst". We've all had them.  A simple thought of, this pain must be a UTI, though she never had one before, turned into an ER visit and quickly turned to surgery within a week. Now we know. On April 2, 2015 her surgery proved it was Stage 3 Ovarian Cancer.

When we spoke before her surgery, her concern was not for what might be found, but how to protect our Mother in telling her about it. I'm still in shock. I'm still wondering how with NO markers, NO history in our family of Ovarian Cancer, how this could be happening. The short answer, because bad things happen to good people. Just like good things happen to bad people. God is still on His Throne and as she said, "God knows, it is what it is." We can't change it, but we can help lessen her burden. WE can give back just a little of all that has been given to us.

I wanted to set this fund up for her and begged for her permission to do so, because she has always been the giver of self. She's facing a HUGE financial hit. When she doesn't work, she doesn't get paid. She will need Chemotherapy and we don't know for how long. She was turned down for short term disability. And has no Medical benefits.  She is now going to need to be the receiver of gifts. She's always put others before herself, even in her profession.

Please send this to anyone and everyone that you may know, that may know Tommie. That could help give to the giver. More importantly, she will need your prayers. She has a very supportive family and I know is loved by many. Now we can finally do something for HER. Please help us reach our goal.

Please know that 100% of all we raise will go to Tommie. She does not have a Facebook account, so I am putting it under "PrayforTommie".  And please do.
