Prayer's for Cole
Donation protected
Cole will have a kidney transplant in February. His mother Melissa will be his donor, giving one of her kidneys to save the life of her son.
Cole Taylor is a typical 16 year old boy who enjoys hunting, fishing, driving his truck and spending time on his grandparents’ farms. Unlike most teenagers, Cole has a daily battle with a rare incurable kidney disease called Focal Segmental Glomerulosclerrosis (FSGS). He was diagnosed with this disease at the age of 1 ½ and has had to take medications and treatments throughout his life to fight this dreadful disease.
Cole’s kidneys are now only functioning at 10%. He recently had a peritoneal catheter surgery in order to begin dialysis, this was supposed to be an outpatient surgery, but due to his blood pressure getting high, he had to stay in the hospital for 3 ½ days. He will start the dialysis at home in two weeks after the peritoneal catheter has healed.
Cole will have a kidney transplant in February. His mother Melissa will be his donor, giving one of her kidneys to save the life of her son. The kidney transplant surgery will be done at the University of Missouri Children’s Hospital in Columbia, Missouri. It will take 5-6 hours; require at least a 7 day stay in the hospital and then another 8 weeks of recovery at home.
The cost of the transplant surgery will be $262,900.00, this does not include the hospital stay, medication or doctor visits. Their insurance will cover 80% for Cole and a portion of the surgery for Melissa. After the transplant, Cole will have to take anti rejection medications for the rest of his life at a cost of about $10,000.00 per year.
This will be a very trying time for Cole, Melissa, Tim and Kylee. Please keep them in your thoughts and prayers. Any support you can give the family will be greatly appreciated!
