Why should you Donate? Here's why!
We at Pretty Poison Burlesque and Cabaret LOVE what we do. We are artists, We are Models, Actors, Dancers, Musicians, Painters, Poets, Crafters, you name it. We pour blood sweat and tears (literally, all three of those) into every act that we come up with spending countless hours slaving away at prop and costume making, handmade merch, choreography, rehearsals and everything in between. This is our passion, it fuels us, it makes us stronger, it keeps us going. For us this is not a choice...this is our lives. To quote Joss Whedon- "Without Passion we'd be truly dead."
Our goal is to be able to fund part of our travel fees for the start of our touring showcase within 2013. We have it looking right at us and saying "Lets do this." We have done showcases for many different events and occasions including Multiple Villian Arts Tattoo Conventions, The Derby Ink Invitational, Wizard World Philadelphia, multiple traveling and holiday showcases and so many more!
Everything we do is theme based. for example some of our past showcase titles are: Cult Classics and Crazy Nights, Tassles and Bones:A Tim Burton Tribute, Fractured Fairytales, Candy Hearts and Heartbreak Harlots, Blast from the Past, Nerdy But Nice and so on and so on. We've had the privilege to work with some amazing bands as well, like Another Vendetta, Sparklefight, Murpheys Law and Ghost of the Robot! We have traveled all over for shows and will continue to do so, we just need a little help to get there.
We have already done shows this year across Pennsylvania, in New Jersey, Chicago are doing upcoming performinces in San Diego, NYC, Chicago and a few other places that we are still booking for our tour this year! It's quite a bit of traveling and we are so excited to have this oppertunity! However, we all have bills and rent to pay as well, and while this is what we love to do,and we work very hard at it,times are rough and we need a just a little help to get us to California and back. We will be doing another Nerdy But Nice Showcase for a San Diego Comicon afterparty with Ghost Of The Robot featuring James Marsters! (Spike from TV's Buffy The Vampire Slayer and Angel)
Thats where you come in. We need to raise money for a few more plane tickets to get the rest of us out there to do the best show we can do, and every little bit helps us get closer to our dream. As a lot of you know Burlesque and Theater are not exactly the cheapest art-form to fall into. But nobody ever said it would be easy...we have paid out of pocket for all of the merch, setup, promo material, uniforms, raffle prizes, domain names, you get it. Trust me, it isn't by any means cheap, but does that mean that we're going to stop doing this? Give up? No. Because this is what we care about. This is in our blood.
I, personally have been doing theater since I was barely able to stand up, my mother was a ballerina by trade, so I got into stage work very early. The First time I saw a live show it changed me, changed my outlook on everything. That is when I knew that the stage was going to be my life and my home. So many people have that same ambition and drive. Our girls are just as passionate about it as I am and have given up so much to keep it going.
Normally we pool together what little money we have after working so diligently on our routines, costuming and props and all chip in with funds to get us where we need to go for a showcase that isn't so close to home, However now that we are working closer with a few convention circuits we are being invited to perform at locations much farther away and slightly out of our price range....and that is a GOOD thing.
We were so excited to be invited to these farther shows that our pasties could (and did) fall off....seriously....there was a lot of jumping. However no matter how much we save and pinch pennies, Getting there isn't going to be easy by any means. Many of the girls, myself included work 6-7 days a week just so we can barely afford to do the shows close to home. We are asking you to donate even just a little bit to help us get there and back so we can put on an amazing showcase and start up our big city tour for the year. We have so much in store to show the world and we know it will be worth it.
Every little bit helps us and we would be so eternally grateful to every single person who donates even a small amount. Every penny donated will be going 100% to fund our troupe's travel, before and after our goal is reached. Even if you yourself can't afford to donate please help by spreading the word to your friends and family, think of it as your gift to all burlesque and theater lovers!
On behalf of everyone here at Pretty Poison Burlesque and Cabaret I wish you all a safe and amazing year and thank you all from the bottom of my heart!
