Support Striking Nurses at Providence Everett

UFCW 3000 represented nurses at Providence Everett (PRMCE) announced in a press conference recently that they will be holding a 5-day Unfair Labor Practice (ULP) Strike mid-November. This was not a position the 1,300+ nurses at the Colby and Pacific campuses of PRMCE took lightly.
The all-member Bargaining Team put forward comprehensive proposals, which included safe staffing accountability, night shift nurse longevity, community responsibility, competitive wage increases, recognition for years of experience, 12-month step progression, and retention bonuses. Nurses made these suggestions to ensure that they can provide the best care possible for patients. Unfortunately, PRMCE rejected these common-sense solutions and instead has committed unfair labor practices by not bargaining in good faith. Nurses made their position clear – by an over 97% vote last month – that Providence had to either come to the table and in good faith consider the common-sense solutions to the major issues facing them and their patients, or they were ready to engage in a ULP Strike.
A strike could create undue hardship for workers and their families. Today, we are asking for your solidarity with nurses who will be out on the line beginning November 14. Here are few ways you can help:
- Donate to this GoFundMe that supports the UFCW 3000 Membership Assistance Fund and the workers on strike. UFCW 3000 has an established program where members can request assistance on unexpected hardship caused by reduction of hours due to extended illness, house fires, natural disasters, and domestic violence support. Funds raised through this GoFundMe will prioritize hardship requests from members on strike and any excess funds will be housed in the UFCW 3000 Membership Assistance Fund for future hardship needs of UFCW 3000 members.
- Join nurses on the strike line! Go to ufcw3000.org/strike for the location and other details. Strike lines will run 24 hours a day at both hospital campuses.
- Attend a Community Vigil to honor the nurses who are taking this action on behalf of their patients and all of us in the community on November 16th at 5:30 PM. Go to https://www.mobilize.us/ufcw3000/event/591903/ for more details.
- Help nurses see the support from the community by amplifying any of our social media posts from @UFCW3000 or write your own with the hashtags #safestaffingsaveslives.
The UFCW 3000 members’ commitment to patient safety, to their community, and to their colleagues is unwavering, and it's time for PRMCE to take action that aligns with the priorities of providing above standard and safe care to our community.
Our deepest thanks for those who are able to contribute to the hardship fund and support the nurses on the strike line.
