Help Theatre Get Back on Its Feet!

Hello theatre lovers!
I'm very excited to announce that a capsule version of my immersive, site-specific musical In Memoriam (which some of you may have seen at the Wiggle Room many moons ago) has been selected to be part of the Centaur Theatre's Portico Project in September. In Memoriam was chosen as one of six shows from over 80 applications. All of us involved are thrilled, not just for the honour, but also for the opportunity to bring theatre back to life in new and exciting ways.

One thing that I'm really fired up about is my new "home team" strategy. This means primarily casting actors who already live together to maximize both intimacy and safety onstage. Parameters can be a gift and I am overwhelmed with the talent that has signed onto this project. This "home team" strategy allows us to have a cast of seven onstage together, singing and dancing.

This isn't my first time working with strange parameters. As many of you know, I started the Island Fringe Festival on PEI in 2012, which I kept 100% site-specific during my tenure. What started as a necessity due to a non-existent budget, blossomed into an exhilarating way to create affordable and accessible theatre in found spaces (parks, attics, living rooms, etc.) I'm excited to be able to bring that spirit to Montreal with this new version of In Memoriam.

In Memoriam: The Wake of Cheddar Fandango is an immersive, musical wake, taking place on the outdoor Portico/steps of the Centaur from Sept. 25 - Oct. 3. It features Chris Barillaro, holly Greco, Stephanie Mckenna, Jonathan Patterson, Espoir Segbeaya, and Dakota Jamal Wellman, with Birdie Gregor, Mahalia Golnosh Tahririha, Dave Surette and myself as part of our offstage team.

We are receiving a stipend from the Centaur, but with such a large team, it doesn't come close to covering what the cast and crew deserve. Yes, I could have made a play with a cast of three but what I love about theatre is seeing people - lots of people - onstage, connecting and communicating. I believe in the magic that happens in live theatre when many actors can come together. It's what excites me. And hopefully, it excites you too.

All of the money raised here will go to paying the team, renting equipment, insurance, and building the set - not to mention Cheddar's coffin! The shows are all free to attend, so we won't be making any revenue from tickets.

I know that many of you won't be able to attend the show, so we're having special In Memoriam: Portico edition postcards made! Every donation over $10 will receive one in the mail (and who doesn't love getting snail mail?)

Thank you for your support. I'm really looking forward to doing what I do best - reimagining theatre with and for community.
