Dear friends, disability rights advocates, fellow practitioners, and change-makers -

As many of you know, I have the honor of serving as the president of the Rocky Mountain Orthotic & Prosthetic Coalition (RMOPC). In late 2022, RMOPC was established to bring an organized voice to our community. Our coalition is committed to reshaping the narrative surrounding prosthetic and orthotic care and access to movement in our beautiful state. Our mission is to advocate for the integrity of industry standards and regional legislative changes to provide greater access to care for prosthetic and orthotic services in Colorado.

1. Continued Advocacy: Your contribution fuels ongoing efforts to advocate for fair and equal access to orthotic and prosthetic services for all individuals in Colorado.

2. Education and Awareness: Support educational programs and initiatives aimed at raising awareness about the importance of mobility and equitable healthcare access, while also creating an implementation toolkit to ensure a smooth enactment of HB1136 on January 1, 2025.

3. Future Legislative Action: Prepare for future endeavors in legislative advocacy to further empower individuals with limb loss or difference and ensure their right to comprehensive orthotic and prosthetic care.

Advocacy Impact:

RMOPC's advocacy efforts in 2023 resulted in the introduction of House Bill 1136, centered around our "So Coloradans Can Move" initiative. This focused on securing insurance coverage for secondary prostheses dedicated to recreational activities. On May 25, 2023, HB23-1136 was signed into law, marking a monumental victory for Colorado's limb loss/difference community. This legislation stands as a testament to RMOPC's unwavering dedication to equal rights. Acknowledging that movement is medicine, a right that all Coloradans deserve.
