Posted by Mike Stoveken. I am a resident of Colorado and became involved in this project while I was in Florida clearing out my Moms house in St. Petersburg Florida after hurricane Helene flooded her home with almost three feet of water. You can see the story about the RV's on my Facebook profile. https://www.facebook.com/mike.stoveken/

On September 25th, 2024, a devastating flood hit the mountains of North Carolina, remnants of a hurricane that raced over the Gulf of Mexico and left destruction in its wake from the Florida coast to Marshall, N.C., and beyond. The flood in Marshall resulted in at least 120 deaths and over two feet of rain within three days. The French Broad River completely drowned the town and surrounding areas.
A friend of mine heard from a relative in Marshall, NC that an RV had been located and donated by a retired couple in Southern Colorado for a family who lost their home in the flood. Within a week, the RV was picked up and loaded with warm coats and blankets from friends and family in the Colorado mountains (it was starting to get cold in North Carolina). A few friends drove it from Colorado to Marshall. A local radio station and Denver TV station helped initiate the clothing drive. The RV is now home to a 50-year-old woman and her mother in Marshall, NC that had lost their home and were living in a tent.
Another retired couple, who purchased an RV and lived in it after a forest fire in Colorado destroyed their home, saw our story on 9NEWS Denver and offered their RV to a family in Marshall if it was needed. IT SURE WAS! That same group of friends has mobilized again to transport the second RV to an 80-year-old veteran and his wife who also lost their home. We will once again fill the RV with warm clothing for residents of the area and make the trip to the East Coast. Columbine Ford in Rifle, CO has donated the use of a truck to tow the RV to North Carolina. Grant Automotive in Morrison, CO installed new tires on the RV along with servicing the bearings and repairing the running lights to make it road worthy. A hitch from Chris at Mike Maroone Ford in Longmont, CO will be installed in the pick-up and it's off to Marshall, North Carolina we go! This has truly been a project made possible by many kind and generous folks! Watch the journey begin on 9NEWS Denver!

We are looking for donations to help cover fuel, lodging, and meals for these trips. CAN YOU HELP?
Note: Any overage will be held for getting the RV's ready for the trip, future project and/or donated to a local organization in Marshall, North Carolina to help families affected by the flooding! Please share this with your friends and families!
LET THE WORLD KNOW WHAT WE ARE UP TO! :-)
