My name is Brenton Pfaff. I am making this GO FUND ME page with my beloved girlfriend, Rachel Wann. As it is, Rachel suffers from Autonomic Dysfunction, Myalgic Ecephalomyelitis, Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome(POTS), Ehlers Danlos Syndrome, and was recenty diagnosed with gastroparesis. She needs our help.
I met Rachel at Illinois Central College in the fall semester of 2014. She was an art major, and I was a model for the figure-drawing classes. I could not help, but notice Rachels drawings on days of critque. She is incredibly gifted, the way she used her line to allow the viewers eyes to move through the entire drawing always impressed me.
As the semester grew closer to an end, Rachel seemed to have gone missing. I was puzzled, and wondered what had happened. It wasn't until the next spring that Rachel's and my path would cross again. We began hanging out more, and It was becoming very clear to me there was a strong bond calling out to us. On July 25, 2015 we sat in a feild and shared our feelings out loud for the first time. That is the day we consider the beginning of our relationship, we still cherish it today.
Since then, I have witnessed Rachel struggle with illness much more than I ever imagined. Rachel hid her symptoms well when we first met, but the more time I have shared with her the more the illness revealed itself. Today, it seems the illness shows itself more than Rachel gets to show herself. Rachel is one of the strongest people I have met. She is very loving and supportive of her friends and family. And honestly, on a good day you wouldn't know Rachel was suffering from any kind of illness. Though, give it a few hours and you would see a "crash". When a crash happens all symptoms, such as debilitating fatigue, brain fog, muscle pain, headaches, and nausea become worse, and unable to mask. A sudden shock that there is still something eating away at her physically.
Here is the Reason We Are Creating a Go-Fund-me:
During the last month Rachel has experienced a severe worsening in Autonomic Dysfunction. She was hospitalized after what seemed to be an autoimmune attack on her nervous system, which lead to excessive tics in muscles and speech, fevers, Gastroparesis, cluster headaches, and further weight loss. Since 2 years ago Rachel has gradually gone from almost completely bedridden to completely bedridden. she has seen over 14 Doctors and Specialists here in the Midwest. They have made multiple attempts in order for her to be seen at Mayo Clinic, however none have been able to go through due to Mayo's backlog of patients.
Rachel needs to be seen as soon as possible and we have managed to schedule an appointment with the Clinic at the Open Medicine Institute in August. The OMI is currently leading in both treatment and research of conditions such as Rachel's, however, they are not covered by any form of insurance, will have to do multiple labs likely paid out of pocket, and are located in California.
Rachel's family is experiencing significant financial burden after the loss of her grandfather and her father's surgery. These funds are greatly appreciated as this is the only possible way the Wann family will be able to afford the cost of receiving proper medical care for Rachel. The funds will go towards the plane tickets, hotel stay, car rental, meals, as well as the medical cost of appointments, medication, blood work, and medical test.
We would like to give an extensive thanks to everyone for taking the time to read this. We are so grateful for any donation, and likely indebted to the friends that have encouraged us to create this Go-Fund-Me page.
It is important to Rachel to not only go OMI, but to share this story with others; to promote the necessary movement for those bedridden from illness. She hopes this can reach the many others who are facing the same loss of living as her. The Open Medicine Foundation offers hope to patients whose conditions more often than not feel hopeless.
