Help Raul (Father of 5) Fight to Live

Donation protected
WHAT WE NOW KNOW, 10/12/2020: Raul, we now know, is battling a life-threatening brain disease (or often fatal and debilitating brain disease) called Progressive Multifocal Leukoencephalopathy or PML. Doctors do not hold out much hope for survival or recovery. However, we are continuing to pray and hope for God’s grace in the form of a miracle and he will have a successful response to this experimental treatment. The treatment is 12 weeks of inpatient care, with several months of intense inpatient rehabilitation, God willing. This will make it necessary for family to fly in and out of Minnesota to assist and support Aimee (Raul’s wife) who will remain in Minnesota throughout the duration of this process. Please continue to pray with us and share his story, to help make this possible. To all who have donated, shared, reached out in support — We thank you so much. Our hearts and minds are all on a rollercoaster of emotions right now, but the gratitude we feel for your collective generosity is endless. Please continue to pray and share Dad’s story. We pray he will regain quality of life again. Ty - The Family WHEN OUR STORY STARTED: Raul Martinez - husband, son, father of five, and grandfather of four (and what is sure to be much more than that) - is gravely ill. Approximately 6 months ago, he began experiencing vertigo and dizziness. This set off a series of medical examinations and testing at Baptist Hospital, Cleveland Clinic and Mercy Hospital. Despite exhaustive testing, no one can figure out what is wrong; all they can tell us is that there is a cerebellar lesion or lesions, causing him to lose the ability to walk, talk, swallow, or waken.

We have exhausted all resources  in our hometown of Miami. Our next, and potentially last hope, is meeting with the Neuro team at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. Unfortunately, although insured, his insurance only covers costs within the state of Florida. This is why we are asking for the generosity of family, friends, and our community to help collect enough funds to put towards Raul's (Dad's) treatment, which we pray will restore him to his happy self.

If you know Raul, you know he is a clown. Always able to look on the bright side, with knack for turning strangers into family. As recently as mid-June, Raul was still walking and talking normally. Living a regular life full of work, family, and friends. But rapidly, his condition took a sharp turn and in just a few short weeks, he is no longer able to walk, talk, or care for his own personal needs. Essentially, he went from being a youthful, vibrant, fun-loving 62-year old, active and engaged grandfather of four, to a man held prisoner by his own body.

On behalf of his wife (Aimee Gonzalez), five daughters, four grandkids, sister, and countless friends, we ask that you please consider contributing to his fund. No amount is too small and Aimee will be using 100% the funds towards Raul's treatment and medical bills.

Sincerest thanks and much love,
Raul's Daughters: Erika, Adriana, Amanda, Katherine, and Elizabeth Martinez
