Medical Fund for Ray DeLapp

Ray DeLapp was never, ever sick. But in September 2016, he developed this horrible headache that just wouldn't go away. He went to the doctor, and was diagnosed with a sinus infection. He stayed home and tried to beat it, but it just kept getting more intense.

Hi wife, Candy stayed home from work on the 4th of October because she was so sure he would need her. At 10:45 p.m. he agreed to go to the ER. They did a scan of his brain, finding some tumors that didn't look very good and then a scan of his stomach area. He was admitted into the hospital and spent the next two weeks having tests. An MRI revealed that he had Stage 4 Lung Cancer. However, the brain tumors needed to be addressed first since it had the most aggressive growth.

After 15 days of radiation, the MRI showed the tumors were stable, and growth had stopped. Now it was time to address the lung with chemo. Treatment began in November, once every three weeks for 6 times. (Ray is entering into his 3rd treatment right after Christmas).

In the meantime, the head still needed additional work and "Gamma Knife" seems to be what the Oncologist recommends as his "only" hope. The treatment isn't offered very many places and the center in Thousand Oaks wouldn't take their insurance. It is a $28,000 procedure. They appealed this decision and finally received approval for the treatment through the regular insurance, but still don't know what out-of-pocket expenses will be.

Since Ray's diagnosis, he has been unable to work. Candy is the sole caregiver and breadwinner for this family right now.  But with her hours at her job being cut in half and her own business (which at least gives her flexibility and allows her to be available as needed), they are struggling to get all the bills paid.

So here it is… Everyone asks, “How can I help?”

This is how. Give now. Give what you can. Give often. This is going to be a long, long haul for this family. If you can’t give now, give when you can. But remember them on your giving list and in your prayers.
