Help Rayuela Recover After Fire Loss

"He who has two languages has two souls" (Quintus Ennius).
It is with heavy hearts that we share the devastating news that our founding location, Rayuela Uno was destroyed in the Eaton Fire. This April would have been the Uno campus's 10 year anniversary. Rayuela is a Spanish Immersion Program that provides a nurturing space for our community to become fluent Spanish speakers. In turn, this community is more able to think and act globally and with empathy.
The space we lost was more than just walls and floors—it was a sanctuary of laughter, learning, and growth. The name "Rayuela" carries profound meaning, inspired by the Argentine writer Julio Cortázar. In his work, rayuela symbolizes a metaphorical journey, reflecting themes of choice, exploration, and the paths we navigate in life. This fire has placed us at an unexpected and challenging crossroads, but it also reminds us of the strength and resilience that define our journey as a community.
While the loss of this cherished space is deeply felt, it also calls us to action. Together, we have the power to create a new space that carries forward the spirit of Rayuela. Let us honor the legacy of this name and the memories forged within those walls by coming together with hope, creativity, and love to ensure our youngest friends continue to have a place to play, learn, and thrive.
We are grateful, however, that Rayuela Dos, the school for our older students, remains intact, providing hope and continuity during this challenging time. If you would like to join us in this effort—whether through ideas, support, or resources—we welcome you with open arms. Any and all donations are welcome! Together, we can rise from this loss and create something even more beautiful for the children who inspire us every day.
Immediate funds will be used for direct supplies at a temporary location, such as a garage conversion of Rayuela Dos or a mobile site to provide continuing education and support for the families we serve. We would also like to sponsor tuition for the families in our community who have lost their home and have been impacted by the fires. Please consider donating in the name of past, present and future Rayuelines and let's continue Rayuela's powerful legacy in the Altadena, Pasadena and global community.
With gratitude and determination,
The Rayuela Community
