Rebuilding Ghargaon Mosque in Sylhet, Bangladesh

Thank you for visiting this page to raise funds to rebuild the old Ghargaon,  Jama Masjid (Mosque) at Ghargaon, Prithimpasha in Moulvibazar, Sylhet, Bangladesh. The page will be coordinated by a team of volunteers, the Ghargaon Masjid Redevelopment Committee (GMRC).

The mosque is currently in a dilapidated condition and desperately needs restoration so worshippers can use it again.

Please share this page and help the GMRC reach its target of £35,000. Ask your family, friends - and maybe fellow worshippers at your local mosque - to contribute as part of their Sadaka Jariah (continuous charity) so Inshallah they can build this place of worship and provide serene, peaceful and comfortable surroundings for the current villagers and future generations to perform their Salat. The GMRC have paid special consideration to the new provision of private spaces for female worshippers. This includes a flexible area within the main prayer hall, female bathroom/Wudhu facilities, and a separate entrance.

We've targeted £35,000 because we also want to use some of the funds towards improving the mosque's pre-kindergarten school facilities for local children, initiate sustainable incomes through craft projects for the local community, and we've obviously built in some contingency to accommodate any impact from Covid or other unforeseeable costs. We want this mosque to not just serve worshippers, but also be a hub to encourage learning and collaboration for the entire community.

The GMRC will be posting regular updates of the fundraising campaign - and once they achieve the goal - on the rebuild and renovation progress. Over the coming weeks, they'll also be detailing the budget, including what each stage and procedure should cost.

Once the goal is reached, all donations will be repatriated to the bank account of the GMRC in Bangladesh. The GMRC chose to use this GoFundMe platform because it's more transparent and accountable than asking people to transfer money to a friend or family's personal bank account. This way, all contributors can see where the funds have come from, and what exactly it is being used for.  The GMRC will not deduct any admin costs, and they'll do their utmost to ensure that every single penny, cent or taka raised is accounted for and used for the sole purpose that it was intended.


Prophet (PBUH) said:

"Whoever builds a mosque for the sake of Allah,
Allah for him will build a house in Paradise."
