Help Reed Get his PhD in Sweden!
Donation protected
After an intensive three month application process including an extensive research proposal and Skype interviews, I was notified that out of the 100 qualified applicants, I was chosen! This means I have the chance to be paid to live, research, teach, and earn my PhD while living in Stockholm, Sweden for the next four years! This would open doors for me in so many ways and is a once in a lifetime opportunity, but I will need your help! In Sweden, PhD students are considered researchers and hold a salaried position with no tuition/fees. This makes the PhD positions in Sweden very competitive.
As someone who has worked in education in North Carolina for the past five years, I have made very little. In addition, for the first five years of my professional career, there have been no significant salary increases even as living costs have steadily increased. I know I am not the only one in this situation, but this makes taking this amazing opportunity financially challenging.
Those of you who know me, know I am not one to ask for money, it is against my nature, but sometimes you have to take a risk that just may change your life forever. This is my chance. So if you can help at all, please do.
Thus, I am asking for your help. The only way I can do this is if I am able cover the costs of the moving expenses, a new laptop (mine is currently 5 years old), establishing a new home (deposits, visas, funds to use until I earn my first swedish paycheck in September etc.), and make it to Sweden (travel expenses).
Any donations, small or large, would be a godsend and help make this dream a reality. All funds donated will be used solely in the pursuit of my PhD in International and Comparative Education. I have set the goal for this fund high, but please understand that any donation, of any size, will help.
If you would like to help but are not financially able to, I completely understand. Do me a favor and share this website with anyone you know that may be in the position to help and support education, dedication to student success, and dreams.
About my research:
I will be researching first-year student support initiatives in Sweden and the UK, the transition students experience, the flexibility students have in changing academic programs, and whether retention is related to those variables. To review my proposal in full:
